Sort of spinoff to Dog post: Archie Bunker & George Jefferson
Archie Bunker is a character we all remember. We remember him for his flaws; he was a bigot, he was not the most educated, he wasn't always willing to hear other people's points of view. George Jefferson was the same character, basically, but the "opposite" of Archie in that he was black, and Archie was white. He had the same prejudices as Archie, but against white people.
I don't think "All in the Family" or "The Jeffersons" would be aired today, in light of the politically correctness that people are afraid of. Do you think this is good, or bad?

Re: Sort of spinoff to Dog post: Archie Bunker & George Jefferson
Interesting question.
I was having a similar conversation the other day but it was about Andrew Dice Clay. If he were a new comedian today, would he still sell out stadiums like he did in the 1980s? Then again, Archie Bunker and George Jefferson are more likeable than ADC ever was.
I think I'd say that those shows would not be aired on the major networks today. There are less and less people who see the humor in the generalizations about ethnic groups. There is a brand of humor that is dead or dying. I have no problems when the off color jokes are part of the act. However, I think it is a different story when a famous person makes a comment that is not part of their act but goes deeper into showing their true colors.
