Sorta PG related....Is it okay to have the godmother be
one of the child's grandmothers??
DH and I have been talking about who we'd like to be godparents and well, godfather was a no-brainer, but godmother has been a challenge.
The first person I thought of was my best friend, but she lives out of state and is pg and due the end of June (we're looking to have baptism in Aug), and has a track record of being unrelaible. She was supposed to be here for my bridal shower, but last minute couldn't come (long story, but her OB had her on bedrest--not this pregnancy). Then for my baby shower, her OB said she could come--But she again last minutes emailed (not even called) to say she was not able to come--she and her DH own their own business and they had some sort of mishap tying her DH up the entire weekend. What was crappy for me was I already paid for them (her, her DH, mom and 2 sisters--none showed--sisters live here).
SO, after a long discussion with DH he's not keen on the idea of having her as the godmother, not b/c she's a bad person, but not been very reliable. Can't imagine she'll be more reliable w/ a newborn in the picture. I then ask if he has any ideas, when we both say my mom.
Is that a bad idea??
DH does have a sister, but we're not that close and there are other reasons which I don't want to get into. DH does have a SIL, but again, don't want to ruffle any feathers by choosing her over DH's sister.
TIA
