South Bay OB/GYN vs. Dr. Matalon
I recently moved to the Bay Shore area and am due for my annual exam. I'm debating between South Bay OB/GYN and Dr. Matalon. Eventually, I'd like to use them to deliver future babies at Southside hospital.
Can anyone give me feedback on either one? Which doctor do you see at South Bay? And does Dr. Matalon have any other doctors in his practice? (What happens if he's on vacation and you are ready to deliver?)
TIA!

I've seen Dr. Jurak at South Bay and she's been great so far. I've heard bad things about South Side (I've heard that people in that are call it Suicide) but South Bay OBGYN also delivers at Good Sam so you could always deliver there.

I see Dr. Jurak too and she's great. So far very happy with the whole practice. I dont know anything about the other practice so i can't help on that one.

Crashing..!
Dr. Matalon is amazing. I can't possibly say enough good things about him.
He delivered both of my sons. During each of my pregnancies he handled by plethora of questions (some absolutely RIDICULOUS) with good humor and professionalism. He's knowledgeable and personable - and can make you laugh even when he has his hand up your hoo-haa. THAT is a talent.
My one and only worry is that I won't know what to do with myself when he retires!
ETA: Matalon has privileges at both Southside AND Good Sam. I CHOSE to deliver at LIJ-Southside and absolutely LOOOVED my experiences at Southside Maternity. The nurses and doctors were outstanding, the rooms were well appointed and clean. I know many people who have delivered there and all with the same glowing feelings about the place. But if you have some good reason not to want to go there - you can also deliver at Good Sam with Matalon.

I'm surprised to hear Southside is called "Suicide". I've only heard good things about them.

I like South Bay.. I've seen so far Dr. Jurak and Dr. Lester like them both.. you will be seeing all the doctors in this practice though before delivery time. The only problem is the waiting with certain doctors.. I live closer to southside but will probably go to Good Sam. Not sure about southside yet.. didn't know about that suicide comment though...

Re: South Bay OB/GYN vs. Dr. Matalon
I go to South Bay...I have seen all the doctors because when you are an OB patient they want you to see everyone. I saw Lockhart & Jurak for the majority...but all staff, nurses and doctors are great.
Due to the fact they have a lot of doctors you will always be seen no matter what. They also do all sonograms on site...some of the smaller offices don't do that. They all deliver at Good Sam. and Southside so you choose.
I highly recommend them all.

Re: South Bay OB/GYN vs. Dr. Matalon
I saw Dr. Matalon for years, I had some really bad issues and he was so great during them...I also had a M/c and he was so sweet and understanding ( he met me at the ER in the middle of the night)....
I switched for different reasons...but I would recommend him.
I also heard amazing things about SouthSide.
I just delivered at Good Sam b/c of their Nicu but if I had a choice I would have gone to Southside b.c their maternity ward is all redone and theres much more room etc then at Good Sam.

The wife of my dad's coworker got a really bad MRSA infection when she went in for something else. I know you can get MRSA (or staph) from any hospital but so far, that's the only thing I've heard about it and it was a very bad experience. I know everyone's experiences are different. Now this woman is older and wasn't pregnant so maybe their maternity is fantastic and the rest of the hospital is the issue.

i switched out of South Bay at almost 30 weeks in my pregnancy with my dd last year..you can FM me if youd like..I am just one person with a bad experience, but im sure youre asking for honesty.. I am VERY happy with my new OBGYN..and he was incredible taking over so late in the game..too far for you, but i would keep looking for an office..imho.
