southampton hospital

Good morning girls!
Just wanted to see if anyone has delivered or will be delivering at Southampton Hospital.

I am not very happy lately with the practice i am at, and i am about 32 weeks pregnant at this point. I hate to switch, but i am not comfortable so it may not really be an option at this point, but we will see. Anyway, this new dr. that i will be calling today to try to get an appt with delivers at Southampton. Just curious if anyone knows how the maternity is...

Re: southampton hospital

I delivered DD there and had no problems. I know everyone will have a different opinion, but every room is private and they redid the entire maternity ward. It's VERY nice.

The nurses were great (but I knew a few of them very well) There was only ONE nurse I wanted to punch, but you take the good with the bad.

I don't have any problems with any of the Dr's at the SH OB office either...they are a group and you get to see all them throughout your pregnancy. I have favorites though.

Just like with everything, everyone will have an opinion...so...

And just an FYI, there is only a handful of us on LIF that have or will deliver there Chat Icon

Re: southampton hospital

I don't have much information to offer regarding Southampton Hospital, as I haven't delivered there yet, but I will be delivering there. I go to Hamptons OBGYN, and so far have had a very good experience with their office and the doctor I've been seeing.

Re: southampton hospital

oh man, i just called empire, and they have still negotiating and their contract is up, which means that isnt even an option either. Augh, i dont know what to do.

In your opinion girls, if you were 32 weeks and really didnt like the practice you were using, would you switch at this point or stick it out??

by the way, hampton ob is where i was going to try to go. I have only heard good things about them....guess not.

Are you sure Empire won't cover it? I have Empire too and was recently approved for Southampton. If I recall, in the letter I got, they'll cover the hospital for pregnancy or if there is no other covered hospital within a 30 mile radius from where you live (which is the case for me).

If I was really unhappy with the practice I was using at 32 weeks, I would switch. However, the insurance issue would unfortunately be the priority.

Re: southampton hospital

I delivered there two weeks ago and had a great experience. The rooms are lovely and all private. I only came across two cranky nurses - everyone else was wonderful and one of those cranky ones was cranky three years ago so I guess its just her way.

I love the Ob Gyn group at southampton - I saw all of the doctors during my pregnancy but the funny thing was the doctor I saw only once was the doctor who ended up delivering my DS and she was great.

Feel free to FM me with any questions.

Oh and I do believe if you are pregnant and have empire that SH hospital has to accept your empire insurance - if you were to just get pregnant now then I think it might be diffrent.

Re: southampton hospital

I'll be delivering there (in 5 weeks +/- Chat Icon )

We just took a class there last week - infant CPR which was OK - but the nurse who gave the class seemd very nice and gave us a short tour. The labor and delivery was busy so we only saw the post-pardom area which is new and very nice. She said they are in the process of redoing the rest of the maternity but won't be done till December :(.

As far as the insurance, I have Empire as well. I would call and check with them because I called up worried I wouldn't be able to deliver there, but they told me because I was more then 3 months along I was grandfathered in. I got the impression (and I'm not sure so don't take it from me) but that you were only grandfathered in if you were over 3 months and had already been scheduled to deliver there.
Oh, also, when I went to sign my admission paperwork and brought up the subject of the Empire issue with the admitting person, she sounded like they felt they would probably come to an agreement by September - but really who knows.

I do like the Hamptons OBGYN - the doctor I saw the first time I was pregnant and had a miscarriage, I didn't care for that much. But he has since left the practice and I have really liked everyone else I have seen there. The only thing I don't love about them is they aren't very convienent time wise - there are no Saturday hours or late hours which can be a pain when you have to fit it in around your work schedule.

And as far as changing doctors, I would say it would depend for me on what exactly I didn't like about them. Some minor problem like they made me wait a long time once, no, but a major difference about something like wanting to try natural but they push you to be induced and have drugs, then yeah, probably I would switch.

Good luck!

Re: southampton hospital

yes, i am sure they wont take the insurance. i called empire, and then so did the dr office. i would have had to have seen them before 8/1 and been in, at least, my second trimester. If i went to them know and empire doesnt reach an agreement with them, i have an $1100 deductable plus i would owe 20% of the fist $1550.

Now, i am trying to find a good doctor that delivers at stony brook (the next closest hospital to me that us decent). I am thinking of calling Dr. Reavis in Patchogue. I had seen him twice in between my pregnancies, but when i got pregnant, i wanted to deliver at St. Charles again (but not if it means staying with this practice that i feel like one of the cattle at).
