i was never spanked but my brother was my mom thought that was mean so she switched to screaming and throwing things at me instead.

My parents didn't spank, my Mom just had this look where we knew she meant business. I'm not sure what it was that we were afraid was going to happen since they never hit us, but when she put on that face we listened!
I need to learn that look!

I chose other bc I wouldn't get a full out "spanking" but I would get smacked (wooden spoons, hands, whatever)
ETA: My mother would scream like no other at us, over the smallest things as well. It wasn't fun growing up all the time

I was very handsy and also a yeller up to about 4 yrs ago..... I've gotten loads better.
Soooooo - I will definitely spank my kids but no belt or other weapon (wooden spoon, hairbrush, etc). And I will try not to raise my voice. It doesn't accomplish much.

I was never spanked. I got the "LOOK OF DEATH" and knew better than to do anything that would cause me bodily harm. I inherited that look and plan on using it on Abby and the one to come.

I was rarely spanked as a child and when I was it was for something big. Mostly my parents just gave me "the look" and I stopped whatever I was doing.

I chose "yes" but I was not just spanked, most of the time I was slapped hard (in the head/arms/torso area).
My children will not be hit  save for the occasionally hand slap in dangerous situations (such as near a hot stove). I was not abuses per se but I have VIVID memories of being hit, especially the time I was pushed to the ground and pounded on the back by my father - at age seven - for talking back to my mother.
ETA: I don't feel that I was very negatively impacted by it, though I do think it caused me, in turn, to hit my sisters a lot while fighting... but I just do not want my children to be able to include hitting them in their memories of me.

this is exactly what i was going to write! i remember the 4-5 times i was spanked and it was only because i did something really bad and never did that again!
My mom yelled at us more than anything and a look from my dad was enough to stop! for me at least!
My husband on the other hand got the wooden spoon and chased by his mom quite a few times.
