Re: Speaking of Daycare- costs???

I'm probably going to go with Kindercare and it's $300 a week for 10 hours a day. I will only need 8.5 hours though. They also do part time for $255 or 3 days for $225.00.

Most other places I called were $250-300 range in the area I live.

Re: Speaking of Daycare- costs???

Tutor Time
$280/week
6am - 7:00 pm (or 7:30pm) for $280/week

They have a part time program for $235 or $255/week for 3 days. Not sure it's for infants though.

Re: Speaking of Daycare- costs???

Remind me to give my babysitter a huge bonus next week when I go back to work. She has been watching my ds since he was 9 months old. He'll be 4 in June. She has my dd all day. I pay $45 a day for 2 kids. She charges me less for my ds because he goes to preschool 2 days a week but only for 2 1/2 hours. I'm due in May and my sn will go to school 3 days a week but she'll have dd all day and my newborn. She is only charging me $75 a day for the 3 of them. And she drops off and picks up my ds for school. I'm a teacher and I drop my kids to her at 8am and pick them up by 4:15pm. You girls are amazing. I could never afford to have 3 in daycare and keep my house. I gess I'm extremely lucky and I have found an angel in my babysitter.

Definitly still a lot but compared to what the other girls are paying for one child. OMG!!!

I can't wait until 2012 when my last baby will be in kindergarten. Then I'll only have to complain about my taxes. Then I'll start stressing over college costs!!

Re: Speaking of Daycare- costs???

When the time comes the cost will be times two for us.

Yes, we are looking at approximately $30,000 a year for daycare when my Chat Icon and Chat Icon have to go.

That is why for so many twin mommies, after taxes and other expenses, it doesn't pay to work but at the same time you have double the other expenses as well (two cribs, two highchairs, two car seats, etc.) because you can't save any money by staggering the various costs for two children (ex. using toys again, clothes, the crib).

Having family watch them is not an option for us.

Re: Speaking of Daycare- costs???

I live in Chicago and pay $150/week (10hrs a day) for home based daycare. There are approx 8 kids, the owner and 2 FT staff. They also feed DS breakfast, lunch and snack. I only need to bring diapers.

I always give her an extra weeks pay at Xmas and the end of the school year. I'm always get her some gifts for all the holidays and her birthday. She laughs because she says I'm the only one who gives her jewelry anymore. I am truly blessed!

Re: Speaking of Daycare- costs???

You should figure on $1200 a month for full-time infant care.
You may find a less expense place but it is good to estimate around $1200. In NYC it is A LOT more expensive. The places pay much higher rents.
For some women working does not make financial sense. You can cut costs a bit and come out ahead of the cost of daycare. But for other women the cost of daycare works for them. Also, some women do love their jobs and want to work no matter what.
