Speaking of dogs....does anyone share their bed with pup...and now wants to break it?

The WORST thing we did was let our little mush ball (who we ADORE) sleep with us. Now he wants no part of his own bed or crate and I don't want him in the bed when we have the baby. If he does start off the night in the crate, he whines at 2 am, and DH lets him come in bed b/c he gets up at 4:30 and doesn't want to hear him. I'm thinking we just need to let him cry it out, we have to stuck it up, etc. Anyone go through this? I don't want to have crying baby AND dog in a few months...

Yes!

With DD Fred would always sleep in our bed. We would go to bed and then I would get up to pee in the middle of the night and he'd follow me back in.

Anyway, after DD was born, he stopped wanting to come in there.

I think he felt like he had to be on guard or something since there was a baby in the house.

Once and a while he will come in our room and we just put him back in his bed and he is fine with it.

My dog sleeps in his own bed next to our bed (though we'll let him up on weekend mornings around 7 or so when we want to sleep longer). He used to whine to come up (luckily he can't jump up on our high bed) in the middle of the night, but I would ignore him and eventually, he went back to his bed. It's hard to stick it out but it's worth it.
When we did puppy classes with our dog, the trainer used to tell us, it's better to get a few nights of bad sleep, then the entire dog's lifetime. It's true. He'll get the hint. Maybe try it over a weekend when DH doesn't have to get up so early?

Can I ask why you want him out of the bed now? How old is the dog?

Tonka always has and still does sleep with us, we never let the BABY sleep in our bed Chat Icon

Fred was such a PITA when he slept with us. He had to be spooning with me UNDER the covers and he would get hot and thrash around until I let him up for air, then get cold and nudge back under repeat x 10 every hour.

Re: Speaking of dogs....does anyone share their bed with pup...and now wants to break it?

As much as it stinks, I think it is probably best to just deal with it for a few nights and teach him that he can't be in the bed. Think of the crying dog as training for the crying baby in a few months Chat Icon

Although Jen probably has a point too...when I was born the family dog became my protector, wouldn't even let my grandmother into the nursery without my mom having to give approval.

Either way, good luck!!!
