I love the concept and have seen it used successfully in other restaurants in other parts of the country, but they are usually much smaller operations that are not-for-profit and are a stepping stone for young adults to learn/aspire to be in the culinary field.

I don't think something like this will fly on Long Island. I don't think people will see the value in something like this. When I worked in restaurants people would question me if the check was off by a nickel. I think people will take advantage.

I think there are a lot of people who can afford to pay more who might...even just giving bills and saying "keep the change." Plenty of people do this in delis and things. Certainly not everyone, but I can see a lot of people doing that, especially if they think it's supporting the ability of those in need to get an inexpensive meal.

Same here. While it's a nice concept, I KNOW plenty of people who would take advantage of it. Hell, my entire office would. You should see them scavange the conference rooms for food- it's disgusting. I work in a very large corporate law firm and to see these people who charge hundreds of dollars for just an hour of their time burst in on meetings just to get a free bottle of water or a cookie makes me wanna Chat Icon.

ETA: On the flip side, I can think of about 10 people in my office who might pay it forward and pay more. That's out of 300.
