Speaking of snow...

How many people think they would get off if we had 6 inches of snow?
How many think they wouldn't?

I hear in this job I have now they don't give off for snow days. I started this job in March so I don't know for sure but my pal Donna on here told me they don't close for spit.

Re: Speaking of snow...

My job never gets off for snow days and mostly everyone goes in. I tried to tell my boss that I wasn't going in bc I didn't want to drive to the train....and he made me.

The second I see a snowflake I am PRAYING to get snowed in!!!

Re: Speaking of snow...

I work in a private preschool that follows the nyc board of ed so suffice it to say....we never get off. I refuse to drive in the snow and it has been ok the past couple of years cause my dh was laid off almost the whole winter (ironic) and he would drive me but this year (thank god) hes at a good shop so I dont know what I will do. I tried to tell my boss I wouldnt be in but I dont think she will be having it.

Re: Speaking of snow...

I hate when they put you in this type of situation. I work for the Queens Library and I think they follow what the NYBOE does, so that is why I think we don't get off. What is with them?

I dont know....they dont like the children to be left at home alone while parents go to work but I dont think its safe for them to go out in ice and snow either. Especially in my situation...we have kids ranging from 2.9 to 4 years old...do they really need to go to preschool in an ice storm??

I work for a child care center. Parents have to get to work, therefore, we hardly ever close. We have had snow days in the past though and last winter a lot of delayed openings.

Re: Speaking of snow...

I think its more dangerous to have them go out in the snow. Especially parents with preschoolers, many work part time or not at all so that doesn't make sense.

Re: Speaking of snow...

That's okay. Glad they would at least close for 6 inches. But what about places like NYBOE and Queens Library that probably won't close for 6 inches?

That I dont know! But my center, 6 inches, would most likely close down.

Re: Speaking of snow...

We don't close for snow. Basically, we are told that if we think it's that bad, we can make the time up. I work for an accountant, and since the majority of the snowstorms come during tax season, it really s*cks. If I take off a day, I'm already working an hour later every night and 4 hours on Saturday, so no way do I feel like making it up! I am soo hoping for a less snowy winter this year b/c last year there werea number of days where I literally drove home in tears b/c I was so scared I was going to get into an accident. Chat Icon

I wish.......

In March a teacher who lives in my building had the nerve to complain that her school had an hour delay when a lot of other schools were off. Don't get me started on her anyway.....

Try going to work in every single snowstorm - and if you're late (since there are no delays) you stay late.

Re: Speaking of snow...

I don't get off unless the governor of NY declares a state of emergency. And that doesn't happen too often.
