Speaking of tipping - what would you do??
So a few days ago DH ordered food. The bill was like $31 and change. We only had 20's on us and NO singles anywhere.
So the delivery guy comes and says he has NO change DH was in the shower.. I didn't know what else to do so I just gave him $40 - so he got a $9 tip.
DH thought I was CRAZY but what else was I going to do?

I totally would have done the same thing. I could care less about the 9 bucks. It's not like it's every night you give the delivery guy a 9 dollar tip!

Thank you!!! Normally I tip like $5 so what the heck is an extra $3 ??? Did he expect me to start counting out change while the food got cold and the guy just stared at me?

Re: Speaking of tipping - what would you do??
I feel like I'm such an overtipper but I feel bad for everyone. I know they don't make a lit of money and then by the time I'm done paying and tipping I usually spend like 50% than I meant to. (especially at nail salons, I'm such a sucker.

If they don't come with change... I take the food, give him the 40 and I tell him to come back with change.
Works every time.

That's happened to me. Perhaps you were his first delivery of the day. They work in shifts so you don't really know when he started.

Re: Speaking of tipping - what would you do??
I probably would have done the same and been very mad at myself for awhile. I bet they ALWAYS say they have no change when they think they might get a good tip. How do you NOT come with change??

Because THATS WHY they do delivery for a living! A lot of these people (if they aren't young)... are not properly educated.
Having change would be the SMART thing.... but you know thats asking too much.

Around my job, a lot of the delivery people will tell you they dont have change- even when they do, so it "forces" you into giving them a bigger tip.
But I do what DJPill does- take the delivery and tell them to come back with change.

Doesn't matter if its the first shift or last. I did some delivery work when I was 16.
Most of the time the delivery guys actually PAY for the stuff before they leave to go out and deliver it.
So if you order a $13 pie and its the guy's first delivery. He pays for that pie before he leaves. Probably hands the cashier a 20... BAMM you have your change.
Now if he hands the guy $13 buks and has no other change... then he is a major idiot (which I wouldn't doubt).

Sure they do.... in Manhattan at least. If they don't... you call the store and the store will raise hell with them.
My boss got a meal free once because the guy didnt have change and my boss sent him back.

Sometimes I don't even give them the 40 initially.
If I am in an extra pissy mood.... I will take the food... NOT pay them... and tell them to come back when they have proper change.
That works too.

I agree with this. And I would also tell him to come back with change and call the restaurant if he didn't. I call if they forget something in my order too. DH is king of small bills, so it is rare that we wouldn't have smaller bills to give him anyway.
I also get annoyed when waitstaff ask me if I want change when I pay in cash. I'll decide what I want to tip based on the service, not how much change I get back.

You know once we ordered dominos and they forgot part of the order. My DH told him to bring it all back and come back with everything fresh - Whats the point of letting the pizza get cold while you wait for your wings? lol Or eating the pizza and then 45 min later having the wings finally come.
So the guy refused to give us all new food. He even called the manager on his cell phone and DH spoke to the manager and the manager said the same thing!! they didn't want to give us new food!! He said why should he replace the pizza if there was nothing wrong with it?
Oh and they wanted us to pay for everything before the new food even arrived. Ummm after seeing what kind of manager they had.. no thank you

Yeah this aggrevates me to no end. Especially if my bill was say $21 buks... and I very openly put two $20 bills on the bill where the woman can VERY CLEARLY SEE before they utter those annoying five words "do you want change back".
"Of course I want my change back you moron. LOL If I had that kind of money to piss away.... I certainly wouldn't be eating here."

I probably would have done the same thing. I wouldve felt guilty leaving no tip @ all, so, I wouldve gave him the $40.
