Speech Related Question...
Caden is on target for a 17 month old when it comes to his speech. As of right now I dont have any concerns....
But....
He leaves off the ending of a lot of his words....Ball=Baw, Puppy=PahPah, Duck=Du, French Fries=Fa Fies, More=Mah...etc
He has no problem with words like Juice, Cheese, Shoes, Mom, Dad, Me, Hi,.....etc
At what point do you get concerned as far as their articulation is concerned?
TIA

Not for a while. Approximations like that are completely normal. If he was 3 or 4 and still approximating all those words, I might be concerned, but not at 17 months.

Re: Speech Related Question...
He has some time. If its not any better when he goes to pre-school or kindergarten, the teachers will pick up on it and suggest speech service. Thats what my DS did.
BTW, your avatar pictures is adorable.

Re: Speech Related Question...
Yikes - this post made me worried! DS will be 17 mos the end of next week and says what I consider to be a lot of words (but I have really no idea what is alot at this point) but, very few of them are completely clear!

Re: Speech Related Question...
i'm a speech therapist-- thats totally normal at his age! hes still learning all about how the whole talking thing works- its great thats hes even trying so many words! what you can do is repeat the word after he says it, and emphasize the ending... just that he can hear it the right way like when he says "baw", you can say "oh! baLL" ( and kind of make the ending a little bit stronger) that way he can hear the right way of saying it without you really putting any pressure on him to say it again, etc. eventually, he'll start getting it

Re: Speech Related Question...
I'm no expert by any means but from all the research I've done it sounds like he is right on target!

Oh Cool...that's what we've been doing.
Although, admittedly, we have been calling French Fries "Fa Fies" just b/c it's cute....I guess we should stop that

Oh Im sorry...I didnt want to worry anyone.
All kids develope speech at their own rate...Im sure your son is doing just fine.
For me, it tends to be difficult to know what is normal and what isnt sometimes.

Re: Speech Related Question...
This is so on target developmentally. NOT an articulation issue at all!
