Spelling Question
I have a student who I caught writing her spelling words when doing them 5x each instead of writing the whole word say "loud" she would right all the l's o's u's and then d's.
I thought about it and realized she doesnt do well on her spelling tests. I'm thinking maybe since shes not writing the whole word out shes not grasping how to spell.
Am I right in thinking this, it kinda made me go
I have started to make her right the whole word, although the moment I step away she goes back to how she was doing it at first.
Any thoughts?

Re: Spelling Question
she should be writing out the whole word each and every time. i'm surprised your school still does spelling that way though. maybe you can have the students use letter tiles.
have her sit near you when she's doing it so you can "watch" her. it's not the type of thing that would deserve a consequence, but if you tell her to do something, she needs to do it. tell her she will have to move her seat if it continues

Re: Spelling Question
We use 3xs each as a homework assignment...in the classroom we do a build mix fix to practice the words...I agree with using tiles so she can practice spelling the words.
