spin off: At what age do you think it's
ridiculous to see a child with a pacifier in it's mouth?
Hence, my upcoming battle.

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
Before I had kids, I would have said when they are walking and talking.
Now, I honestly don't think about it. I figure it must be working for that family for whatever reason.
Well, maybe if I saw a kid who looked like they were in elementary school I might think they were a little old, but I wouldn't dwell on it. For all I know they are special needs and it is the one thing that keeps the child calm.

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
I guess i'm quite the harda*s because i plan on yanking it from my son and giving it to the pacifier fairy at 12 months.
I'm not saying that no one beyond a year should have one, but IMHO... i don't think anyone over the age of 3 at most should have one (unless special circumstance).

2!
I can't tell you how many 2 to 4 year olds I have seen on the playground, in stores etc with a pasifier in their mouths.
It is beyond disturbing to me. It's one thing when it is used for sleeping but jsut walk around with it...
Last fall we were at the playground by our house and a boy who must have been at least 4 came in, with a pacifier in his mouth and proceed to play hoops without ever taking it out. I was floored!

ETA: My daughter used it only for bed time from about 20 months until we took away right before she turned 3. My DS is 16 months and I have no intention of taking it away right now.

I agree with you! WOW... 4 years old playing basketball with it?!?!?!? That's a bit much! I bet his parents don't have one single picture of him without it either!

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
DD is 13 months & we only give it to her for naps & bedtime. But if she finds one laying around, (in the diaper bag, toy chest, etc..) she pops it right in.

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
I really don't care if I see a toddler with a pacifier. Maybe if the child was in preschool or kindergarten, I might notice that, but the little ones still need their comfort objects at times.

DD is 3 DS is 20 mths and thy both still use it to sleep with. DS will use it for comfort more often (like teething or when he's sick). They have ONLY used it for sleeping. We never let them use it otherwise

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
I say do what works for your family, but I would think once the child is in kindergarten they would be too old.
Nate is 3.5 and just stopped using his paci last week. He only used it at home during naps and bedtime. He recently started sleeping in his bed all night without coming into our room and I wanted to get that straight before more changes. Last wed, we noticed is paci had a hole in it and I told him we needed to throw it away. I also bribed him with making cupcakes (worked to get him sleeping in his bed). He's asked for it but so far so good.
Jayden will be 2 next month and we're still working on him. He doesn't use it at his babysitter's but wants it all the time at home.

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
before DS, I would have said 1 yr old, maybe 2 yrs, but now, it is truly one of my biggest fears sonce DS LOVES his.
I would still probably make a huge effort to wean by 2 years old, but I'm definitely a lot more forgiving now that I have DS.

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
To answer my own question:
Ayla wil be 2 in May and I plan to take it away from her during the day. She can use it at night to sleep. I have to admit that is uses her pacifier about 50% of the day. I am a huge enabler b/c it makes her content and helps since my babies are 10 months apart.
I feel like she is obsessed with it so come May it's coming out. I'll be posting about that.
I am not comfortable with my 2 year old with a pacifier in her mouth unless it's bedtime.
ok I lied, she has the pacifier about 75% of the day. OMG taking it away is going to be torture!!!

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
honestly, it does not make one bit of difference in my life what others do with their children
my dd never took a paci so I never had to worry about it

Re: spin off: At what age do you think it's
I took DD's away when she turned 2. She was getting very dependent on it.
But my 3 year old neice uses it to sleep and at home. She is never outside with it.
