Spin-off to dishwasher- how long does yours run?
We're new to this dishwasher thing. It seems to run FOREVER. On average, how long is a cycle for yours?

About 2 hours. I just read a write-up in Consumer Reports about dishwashers, and the average "normal" cycle is roughly two hours, for all brands, give or take 15 minutes.
The irony is, the newer dishwashers are designed to use less water, but they have to run longer to clean the dishes....

I'm such a house virgin, aren't I? 
I'm not 100% new...I did use one in the house I grew up in but I wasn't paying the water/electric bill and never paid attention to these things!! Oh how I see things sooo differently now. I can still hear my Dad's voice in my head "DO YOU THINK WE OWN STOCK IN LILCO?" anytime I left a light on!!
Remember LILCO?

I can still hear my parents saying that also! They still call it Lilco. Now I say to DH (who for some reason can NEVER shut off lights when he leaves a room) DO YOU THINK WE OWN STOCK IN LIPA?
Anyway, we just bought a new dishwasher and the total run time is 96 minutes. It's so quiet you can barely hear it!

Normal cycle - 2hrs 19mins.  But I barely hear the thing running so it doesn't bother me.

Probably about two hours. But if I select a light cycle without an extra rinse it runs for much less. Maybe an hour?

Mine runs anywhere from 96 to 112 minutes, depending on how dirty the dishes are (its self adjusting.) And that's on Normal cycle with heated drying.

I would say less than 2 hours. I love love love my dishwasher!! Its silent and super powerful. 
Its a GE.

Studies show that dishwashers use less water than hand-washing. Less water means less electricity to heat the water. Don't feel guilty, you're saving water!
