Spin-off to Girls Nite w. POLL
So, hosting a girls nite this Friday for family & friends. We all rotate, sometimes we go out, sometimes someone cooks, etc.
I do not have a lot of recipes in my repertoire, but I have a meal in mind I could make (see above). I am, however, very comfortable with cocktail party/wine and cheese type events.
Should I...

I think it depends on what time people are coming over affects what type of food you serve. When is everyone coming over?

Probably around 7 or 7:30. If we go out, we'll meet at the restaurant first for around the same time.

I'm an appetizer kind of girl...all my parties at home are appetizers, I like the variety.

I love wine & any kind of appetizer type food, so that was my vote. Then maybe have a dessert & chocolate martinis at the end. That would be my perfect night.

YOu could really go either way. But I think by the time you make or buy all the appetizers you might be able to do it cheaper with a main course and salad and bread or something on the side. Either way you are good

Re: Spin-off to Girls Nite w. POLL
why don't you all cook together?! we've done this with girls nights in... one time we did a "make your own pizza" party. we bought the dough from trader joes, and each person was responsilble for bringing some kind of topping. we had hawaiin pizza, basil and mozz, a taco pizza.. all kinds of good stuff another time we did a pasta theme where we just got a few boxes of pasta, and everybody brought a sauce- one girl did shimp scampi, i made vodka sauce, somebody else made a chunky garden veggie sauce... so cool to get to try a few different sauces all of this was accompanied by wine, or course, and followed up with some chocolate fondue

i love the wine and cheese thing. my friend calls it a 'before and after party,' the 'before' being the appetizers and the 'after' being the desserts. i've done it twice and its such a hit! you can find some great deals at BJs. and I've got a great baked brie recipe - super easy and SO good. FM me if you want it.

Re: Spin-off to Girls Nite w. POLL
i prefer a semi healthy dinner with a little bit of munchies at the beginning
id do a small cheese plate with grapes and figs and nice crackers with wine to munch on while you are cooking then id do the chicken with an easy salad and some crusty bread
easy but elegant
efs (edited for spelling)

This is almost exactly what I did. I put out nuts, triscuits, cheese, grapers hummus, veggies.
I made the chicken over spinach for dinner. I think/hope it was a big hit.
Thanks girls!!
