Spin-off to my Tutor Time post: Would you change daycare if...
DS has been going to an in-home daycare for alittle over a month and a half now. He had a VERY rough transition to daycare and cried hysterically every time I dropped him off. It's only in the past week that he has finally become more comfortable and goes right to the woman who looks after him and doesn't cry when I drop him off.
The problem is that she charges $7.00 and hour (which adds up to around $280 per week, its off the books so I cant claim her on my taxes, she doesn't always follow my directions (for example, I tell her to give him juice throughout the day in his sippy and when he gets home he dying of thirst as if he hasnt drank all day), I'm providing ALL meals and diapers for him even though originally she had told me SHE provides breakfast and lunch, and to top it off she's feeding the other kids there my son's food that I provide. Nothing that she's doing is HORRIBLE, but I just don't feel like I completely trust her. Not to mention, she'll randomly over charge me and say he was there from 8am - 5:30pm when in reality I never get there before 8:15 (and I'm usually late) and I'm always there to get him before 5:15. Instead of helping me save money, doing the in-home thing is actually costing me MORE because of her games.
Anyway, I'm seriously contemplating switching him to a daycare like Tutor Time as you can see from my earlier post. I think it would give me peace of mind, he would get more educational and social benefits from it, and it will probably cost me about the same if not slightly less. I'm just SO worried about switching him after he just finally adjusted to this one. WWYD? Do you think I should just let it go and leave him where he is so that I'm not uprooting him and starting all over with a new place? Or would you just go ahead and switch in the hopes that he's adjust faster this time?

I would switch him. You need to be able to trust your provider. And, its also possible that the reason he took so long to get used to it is because he does not like her. Kids are amazing judges of character.
Switch him, I bet he does MUCH better

I think I would switch him. I went to an inhome babysitter when I was younger, the lady constantly took the food that was brought for the younger babies and gave it to her own kids she def. had favorites it was pretty bad. I think you would be better off at a center

I would switch him - she sounds like a piece of work and he will adjust to his new environment.

I would switch him - I wouldn't want to continue to send him there if I couldn't trust the person running it.

Don't discount other in-home daycares when you begin your search though, I would hate to have one bad apple spoil the bunch.....If you really like the idea and feel of an in-home daycare and want to stiick with that route, contact your local Child care Council or go through the NYSOCFS website for a list of "licensed" in-home providers...You can get that rate (and meals included) and still have all the perks of a center...
Whichever you decide , good luck

Re: Spin-off to my Tutor Time post: Would you change daycare if...
I would switch him. It's possible he isn't eating or drinking as much because he is still getting used to the new environment (DS didn't eat much at daycare initiallly). but she shouldn't give his food to other kids. No way. And I also don't like the fact that she said food was included but it's not.
Bottom line, you said you don't trust her, and you don't want your child with someone you don't trust.
DS switched daycares after 2 months incidentally. We weren't unhappy with the first, but another had an opening and they are located much closer to our house, so less schleping for me. He had no problems adjusting the second time--it was almost like it was a fresh start. And he had a really hard time at the first daycare. So you never know, it may actually be easier the second time.

I totally agree with this. My DS went to a provider that I loved in the beginning, but had major problems with after a few months. When DS was just before his 1st birthday I changed him to another provider who is AMAZING! I pay $700 for the month and I don't pay when he is not there. She provides all meals and I just bring him in the morning with 2 sippy cups with juice that she fills throughout the day. She also does A LOT of teaching and he is learning SO much from her. He just turned 2 in September and knows his ABC's, can count to 20 and knows most of his primary colors. Not to menton that he always says please, thank you, and excuse me. He's become very polite, lol. Just look on the OCFS website and interview someone new. I'm not knocking daycare centers. Heck, I worked in one and I loved it! But, I like that DS is in a home with only 2 other children where he learns a ton and gets a lot of attention.

I would switch him. It's a world of difference in my experience when you go from a place that provide meals (which are planned by a nutritionist).
It sounds like she's nickel & diming you - and giving the other kids your son's food is unacceptable.

Switch him! He hasn't been going to her that long so it shouldn't be a difficult transition. My DS goes to TT and we love it!

Re: Spin-off to my Tutor Time post: Would you change daycare if...
I was a licensed provider for more than 10 years and I'll always say a good home program is better for a younger child however in this case this woman seems to care more about the dollar. If she is licensed she is also supposed to be giving you her tax i.d. number and claiming what she makes. I think that you are over paying, your even providing your own food that is crazy. I think you should put your dc some where you can trust 100% and at least be able to claim what you are paying!

Re: Spin-off to my Tutor Time post: Would you change daycare if...
Just because you do not trust her and the $$$ situation/games, I would leave.
You can claim dependent care with a certified daycare (in-home or center).
I have to say that TT offers great free extented hours for the $$$ they charge. A lot of daycares charge for the extented hours. And like all daycares the social interaction is great.
Oh yes, and while they may use emergy diapers for another kids, it's not constently. Just like the food!

I love my home-care licensed provider, but in your situation I would definitely switch. I do not like dishonesty, and I think se sounds completely irresponsible about the food. I do not think any licensed provider will allow him to have a sippy cup all of juice all day though. Water, maybe.
