Spin-off to self tanner: Spray tans
Thinking about getting a spray tan for the first time, for an upcoming vacation, but I know nothing about them. What if anything do you have to do/avoid right after getting one? Does it rub off on clothes? How long does it last? Does it fade faster if you go swimming in a chlorinated pool? Do you have to do anything in particular to help it last longer? Anything else to know?

Re: Spin-off to self tanner: Spray tans
I had one for the first time last May before I went to Miami. The woman came to my house. I found that easier so I didn't have to worry about getting dressed too soon before it dried. She sent me a list of instructions. The day before you are to shave and exfoliate well. No deodorant or lotions the day of the spray. No make up when you get sprayed.
She set up a tent in my house and I stood in there and she sprayed me all over. Afterwards I had to stand without getting dressed for a while - just until it dried- then loose fitting clothing.
I was sprayed at 5 pm and the next morning just took a cool rinse shower- no saop and no scrubbing and no shaving. 24 hours after the spray you can resume normal showering and shaving. I did use the sample of shower gel she gave me- supposedly it preserves it. And moisturize every day like crazy to keep it.
Did not rub off on my clothes once it was dry.
At first it looked TOO dark- that is because they put an instant bronzer in it to see where they are spraying. But that washed off in my first shower and it turned into a nice natural color.
And yes, I went in the pool down there and noticed I did lose a lot of color.

The woman who came to me was $60 I had seen some online that come to you for cheaper- one was like $30 or $35 but i just didn't like the vibe I got off her Facebook and webpage and when i emailed her with questions. The woman I used was great with emailing me back answering questions etc She used a high quality product too which is so important IMO . So it can vary- between 30 and 60 to come to you

Re: Spin-off to self tanner: Spray tans
I always go to Beach Bum for my spray tans. It's $35 for one session or you can get packages- I think 3 for $80 or something like that.
The instruction are pretty much the same- shave, exfoliate, no make-up, no lotion. I wear nothing but a thong when I go because no one likes tan lines. It's COLD. The spray I mean, and the fact that you're naked. Once the spraying is finished (about 5 minutes), they set up a warm fan and let you dry a little before getting dressed (about another 2 or 3 minutes). They recommend you wear loose clothing that you don't really care if you stain. I always wear a baggy t-shirt and old sweats, no bra, though I've never noticed any stains. Make sure you don't plan to go anywhere after the spray because you will look gross. It sometimes looks a little streaky and dark. I believe it's 4 hours later you can rinse in a cool shower- no soap, no scrubbing. The next morning you can take a regular shower and you're done! Just try not to exfoliate and make sure you moisturize as much as possible. It really makes the tan last. I didn't notice that I lost any color in the pool, BUT the beach definitely took it's toll. I just noticed some fading around my feet and ankles, but this was also after almost 5 days so I consider it money well spent.

I'd go Wednesday evening. That's what I did for my wedding in 2010. Thursday rehearsal, Friday wedding.

This. You want at least a full day to let the tan kind of "settle in" and also to let the darkness fade a bit.

I had it done for the first time last summer for 2 weddings. I went to Beach bum. It was I think $60 for 2 visits. The first girl I had was AMAZING. They dry you with air so it won't come off.
The 2nd time was uneven.
I would def do it again but request the first girl. They mix the color based on how dark you want to be and your tone. The first night I was SUPER dark and was scared. But when I shower the next day I was much better.
I did it on Thursday night for a Sat wedding.
