Spin Off to Snow Day Savings
Where would one turn when looking to start saving for retirement? I'm 29 (DH) is 28. He has a retirement plan through his employer. My employer has a 401K plan that I haven't joined yet. Are there ways to save outside of your employer? Sorry, I'm an investment dummy.

usually, your employer matches your contributions, so your nest egg grows faster... so if that's the case, it's best to invest through your employer....

Start NOW. It's awesome! And the sooner you start, the more you'll have.

Re: Spin Off to Snow Day Savings
There's no external investments. I'll probably speak to my FIL. He had a plan through his employer and his own personal savings. He retired at 55 and is living quite comfortably.

Definitely, this is the place to start! Many employers will match up ot 3 or 5% of your salary (if you contribute that much of course)

Re: Spin Off to Snow Day Savings
I contribute to my employers retirement, which they match.. but I also max out my IRA contributions every year.
Speak to someone about also opening up either a Roth IRA or a Traditional IRA, to see which is better for your age & income. I have a Roth for my situation.
