Re: Spin-off to Spec. Ed license post..ESL/ELL license
You mean like an initial certifcation?
I got a masters in ESL, so I had to take 45 credits, but i don't know how it would be if you were just taking classes to get the certification.
Either way, you still need to take the ESL CST test, classes in linguistics etc.
I just realized that this probably was not very helpful

Re: Spin-off to Spec. Ed license post..ESL/ELL license
I was wondering the same thing. I currently am a Spanish teacher. Is there an extension I can get?
I called Stony Brook, where I got my Masters from, and they said I would have to go back and get a whole other MA degree. I was thinking of going to speak to a counselor at Dowlng (where I got my Special Ed. extension from).
Any tips? Advice?
Thanks!

I just saw that Adelphi has a certifcation/post grad program that is for people with a prof. or perm. certification. Howerver, it is 21 credits and I am not sure if I want to spend $$$ in tuition. I think I may see if CUNY has a program.

Yep, I did it through St. John's University. It was only 5 classes plus the certification exam. St. John's has an Oakdale campus which was perfect for me. I actually also went through a special program from my school since we have a high need for ESL teachers so I didn't pay a penny.

Thanks for the info! I'm definitely going to check it out. I passed the St. John's campus on my way to Dowling...very convenient!
I didn't read correctly and just realized that you said you didn't pay a penny! Good for you!!
