Spin off to taxes
DH and I got married in Sept. I usually use Turbo Tax, but I'm not sure how to file this year. We have no house, no investments so it's pretty straight forward. Do you think I should use a professional this year or try it on my own??

Re: Spin off to taxes
im trying it on my own first... the only thing for us that changed was my name and our marital status... nothing else is different so i dont see why i would be able to do it myself..

Re: Spin off to taxes
You can still do it on your own. If you use turbo tax or one of those software that guides you every step of the way, it will be really simple.

Re: Spin off to taxes
Did you have to change anything that reflected your marital status on your W2? Like w/HR?

Re: Spin off to taxes
I went to SS and changed my name - but I never submitted anything to HR so I'm assuming that is the same...

You guys won't get screwed no worries. As long as when you file you put in Married you're good to go.
ETS: The importance of changing the name at work and SS is so that your W2 can match the name on record for when you file (at least for tax purposes).
