Spin-off to When did you DC start school? Starting mid-year?

DS is 18 months and at a babysitter's house. DH and I have been casually discussing whether or not to have him in a more formal "school" setting once he's two. He'll be two in January. More than likely, we would not pull him out of his babysitter completely, but supplement 1-2 days a week at "school." If you DC has a birthday that is not near the start of the school year, what did you do? Did you start mid-year (when your child's bday is) or did you wait until the next school year began? DS will be two in Jan 12 and if we wait until Aug 12 tp start school, he'll be 31 months at that point, closer to three.

My son is 1 month younger than your son and he will be starting "school" the following fall when he is 2 1/2.

I actually looked into a few 2 year-old programs (most were 2 hours a day for 2 or 3 days a week) to see if I could start him in January, but the ones I looked at didn't have that option and all had cutoffs requiring the child to be 2 by dates ranging from September - December.

So I think if you wanted to do a traditional 2 year-old program, then you probably won't be able to start him until next fall. But if you are looking at daycare centers for more of a "school" setting as oppposed to a formal 2 year old program, then you could start him whenever. I would probably start him in January then.

DS will be two in November and misses the cutoff for most programs. I am looking to start him midyear in February in a two-day a week program.
