Spinning off of Kerry's posts - q's about more neighborhoods
Kerry, we should be search buddies, I think we are looking for the same exact things!
In addition to the areas that Kerry posted, what are opinions on:
Medford Farmingville
I know both would be a 15-20 min drive to Ronkonkoma train station, but what about the areas in general and the schools?
Medford is Patchogue/Medford SD and Farmingville is Sachem, which I know we have already had a discussion about.

Re: Spinning off of Kerry's posts
we may be neighbors one day!! hehe. Both those areas are too far for us.
I would recommend Farmingville to Medford because Pat/Med schools are ok, but really not as strong as some others. And there are some not so nice parts of Medford. I would recommend driving around Medford. Its the land of huge new homes next to shacks. There are some developments but a lot of spot building which creates streets that could help/hurt your property value.
Plus, there are more sexual offenders in Medford. I just checked on watchdog. That is always an important factor for us being we are planning to start a family in 2 years.

Yeah, we have done a lot of looking in Meford. The area that has the sex offenders is Gordon Heights, we are staying away from there. The area we are looking at is Eagle Estates - which seems to be a nice, established neighborhood. I have heard it had its "rough" times but is being revitalized - and we have seen a few houses there now, and it seems really nice. I checked out Pat-Med schools, and their test scores seem pretty decent - they are scoring a lot of 3's on the 4th grade tests, which is good. Schools are not my MAIN concern right now, because really, by the time I would have a kid old enough to go to school would be 5-6 years, and who knows what can happen in that amount of time!

I have friends that live in Patchogue and Medford and we were originally looking in Patchogue and Medford, but our friends told us to stay away from Eagle Estates. I loved Medford Pines, and Old Medford area they have some beautiful houses over in those two areas.

Do you know why they said to stay away from there?

What kind of crimes? I dont mind "mixed," in fact I welcome it - but what kind of crimes are we talking about - I mean every neighborhood has crimes - but if you mean murder, rape, etc. vs. breaking and entering... (not that any of them are good...)

Re: Spinning off of Kerry's posts - q's about more neighborhoods
The only area I know anything about that you mention is Farmingdale.
All I'll say is that there is crime there and apparently, it's "normal" for lots of high school girls to get abortions. Not sure if that matters...

Farmingdale and Farmingville are two different towns. I don't really know how or why a lot of abortions would matter when trying to find a place to purchase a home.

Resale is very hard in the area and because of all the stores up near horseblock road a lot of hanging out goes on and it turns into some vandalism problems. We had friends who lived in that area and moved because of these reasons, they moved to the other side of Medford.
