Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

...but is planning on stopping after just 1 or 2?

I really thought I wanted 4 kids. I loved being pregnant with DS and he was such a great baby, is still a great toddler (though he has his moments) but is becoming a handful.

I am NOT loving being pregnant this time, I am so much more tired and sore and uncomfortable, and I can't imagine doing this again with 2 kids at home!

Maybe it's because DS is so young, and if I wait a few years I'll feel differently...

I could of written this word for word. I always imagined having 3 or 4. But this pregnancy has been very different for me and I am so tired that I can't imagine doing it again. I also know what it is like getting just me & DD out of the house in the AM, I am scared to death thinking of having to do it with 2, but even more than 2 Chat Icon

As time passes maybe I will feel differently, but I don't know, I'm not getting any younger .Chat Icon

Well I always wanted 4. I think we're done after this. In fact, pretty sure we're done. I would have my tubes tied if St. catherines allowed it.

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

Yep. I always wanted at least 3, maybe 4.

But I have to say, I hated being PG with DS, and I hate being PG now, and I totally can't imagine how I would be able to handle more than 2.

I guess, in theory, I would still love to have a big family, but the reality is that I don't know if I'm willing to make the sacrifices to do so.

Unless someone volunteers to carry and birth my future children, and handle all the sleep-deprived nights, I think I will be done with 2.Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

I've always wanted 4. I figured #4 would be a 'we'll see how it goes'. But since I had the loss of our first, and now I am on our 3rd, I feel like I will have my 4, just one one be here.

So, I only plan on having 1 more after this DC. I love being pregnant, even with a toddler running around. For me, the good outweighs the bad.

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

I really don't know... I tihnk it all depends where we stand in life. Like, right now we are only renting a house... and expecting our first son hopefully THIS week. We both love kids, and are sooo excited to meet this first little guy... but we only rent a 2 bedroom. He wants the kids close in age, so that would involve us to move in case we have a girl. I'll be happy with 2, but if more come, then so be it.

((Raises Hand)) I was totally one of those. DH and I wanted three-four children. I really can't even think of making it to the end with this one little less having another.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

I really want 3-but with my health issues, we are going to see how we do with one and when she is 3, we are going to re-evaluate. Most likely, we will have 2. As much as I would love 3, if I am physically incapable of handling them, it is not fair to my children. Pregnancy is not horrible, but it hasn't been great for me either. My body will definitely need time to recover and considering I am 29 now, I don't know how I will feel in 3 years or whether I can do a 5 year old and 2 under 2, as I would like to be done ideally by 35.

we will def go for 2, and see how we feel about a third after that. I would love 3 kids. But our IF may determine how many kids we'll actually get, I'm just so glad we'll have at least this one!

Same here. I came from a family with 4 kids, and thought it was great! But in all reality, it's too expensive to have 4 kids here. We would need a MUCH bigger house (we already need a bigger house and can't afford one Chat Icon ), and on one income it's just not possible. I also wanted to be done having kids by the time I'm 35, so I've got 4 more years to pop out the others!

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

I keep saying thank goodness we are having boy/girl twins bc I don't think I could do this again. Between the IVF to get pg, than gestational diabetes and having to take insulin, than an incompetent cervix and having to have an emergency late term cerclage and out out work on bed rest since 26 weeks....I think it is safe to say we are done!!

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

we wanted 4 but we'll never get there. if finances were better and i had maternity leave at work then i think we'd definitley have the 4.

right now we'll have 2 by the end of march. my oldest is only 14mnths so i think i need a break. if we do try for a 3rd if won't be for another 2-3 years. it was alot this time around running around with an infant and being pregnant.

i came from a family of 5 and i would love my children to have other siblings. dh only has a brother and he would like to see our son's have at least 1 more sibling.

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

I'm already 34 years old, so in terms of window of opportunity iI fell like I don't have much of one. We would like 2-3 children before I turn 40 which means we can't wait too long between pregnancies. DH comes from a big family (he's the youngest of 6) and I come from a small family (I'm the youngest of 2). We'll see how everything goes with DS #1 and if after having him my tune changes.

I do know that I want to lose weight before my next pregnancy...i was overweight to begin with and that is what made this pregnacy harder than it would've been. For all my whining I know I didn't have it too bad....but my weight contributed largely to the bad times I have had.

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

I had my two babies very close together. We both wanted big families--like 3 or 4. When I was pregnant the second time, I did not totally love it, like I did with my first. My first DD was also a wonderful wonderful baby and very good toddler, but is a total handful. sometimes 2 or 3 handfuls, and I only have 2 hands :) When I was at the end of my pregnancy with DD2, both FH and I said we thought we would be done after this and that 2 kids was just fine with us. When I was in labor, FH started saying he wanted more...2 or 3 more. I told him to please at least wait til I was out of labor (and my second labor was actually much harder than my first). But, since Ive had the second, I also feel like this cant be it and I want more. But not yet! I need a few years in between this time!!!

Re: Spinoff - anyone thought they wanted a big family...

We are kind of on the fence, but always wanted between 3-5 kids. I think 5 is definitely out of the question, but 3-4 is still a potential.

I have loved being pregnant both times, and can't imagine that this is my last. But I have some health issues that I need to get under control, money does not grow on trees, and I'd really like to be done having babies by 35 and I'm 30 now.

We've decided to wait and see after Chat Icon gets here, how Chat Icon does, and how we adjust and can handle it as a family. One thing is for sure...if/when we go for #3 there will be more time between #2 and #3 than there is going to be between my first two.

It's a hard decision - I want my kids to have everything I had growing up and more, and the more we have, the harder it is to do that.

yep. i always wanted 4. But now we have one, and one on the way. The other night DH and I said he is having a vasectomy and I'm gettin my tubes tied after this one! I always hoped to start younger, and money is really really tight, etc. I am excited to have two, but I think we are done after that. Chat Icon
