spinoff - car seat placement for baby #2
So right now, mikayla is behind the passenger seat. When we put the infant seat in, should we move mikayla to behind the driver and put the baby behind the passenger or just leave mikayla where she is and put the baby behind the driver's seat ?

I think that you should move her behind hte driver. Then you get out, take her out, then walk around and get the baby.

Re: spinoff - car seat placement for baby #2
We put the infant seat behind the passenger and the rationale was that if I were parked on the street, it would be much easier to simply have DD#1 stand next to me on the sidewalk as I quickly placed the baby in the car behind the passenger. Then I could hold her hand into the street and put her in street/driver-side. I couldn't just leave her on the sidewalk alone as I placed the baby in on street side.
Now that they're older it works out pretty much the same way. Abby is very wild and so I have to put her in first on the passenger/sidewalk side (otherwise she would surely bolt...as she has already!) as Kate stands beside me.
Confusing much?
Now all this is negated if you are parked on the left side of a one-way and none of it matters if you never park on the street.

Re: spinoff - car seat placement for baby #2
Our rationale for putting the infant seat originally on the driver's side is because we could pop the seat out in a few seconds, then get out of the street, and spend more time getting DS in and out of his straps on away from traffic.
With two DC, I don't think there's a "safer" configuration than another method. One DC will be behind the driver, and the other behind the passenger, and on some days, one configuration will be better than the other, but you can't know that beforehand.

I very rarely park on the street here in charlotte. It may be better to have the infant behind the passenger though so I can see him through the mirror

josh will be behind me.
open passenger side...tell josh to get in, while he's working his way across put baby in. close door.
walk to drivers side...open door, buckle already seated josh in.
getting out....I always open josh's door, unbuckle him...tell him go to other side, close his door. then out of passenger get josh and baby out.
that was my babysitting kid system.

I am moving Jack behind the drivers seat and putting the baby behind the passenger.

Nate is on the drivers side and Jay was on the passenger side. It was easier to reach out to the baby if I had to while driving if he was on passenger side.
