Spinoff - Hair Salon Tipping

If you see the owner of the hair salon, do you still tip? I did last time (20%) but I wasn't sure if I was overtipping or needlessly tipping?

Re: Spinoff - Hair Salon Tipping

I never tip the owner...honestly, they shouldn't accept tips.

I do, however, divide what would be his tip among the washer ($5) and blower ($15).

Re: Spinoff - Hair Salon Tipping

I've never seen the owner, so I have no real advice, but....

I'd feel awkward not tipping, but I wouldn't want to. I'm a sissy sometimes and tip out of obligation, even when I'm not happy.

If I ever did see the owner, I'd hope he or she would say "Oh that's not necessary, just take care of the shampoo girl and the blow-out girl". But how often does someone turn down a tip!!?? Chat Icon

The first time I saw a salon owner I was told in advance not to tip...but I felt awkward and in the end, went to hand him a tip. He promptly refused and told me as the owner, he doesn't accept tips. Talk about awkward Chat Icon Chat Icon

When the current guy I see became the owner (I saw him before he owned and tipped), I was told he wouldn't accept tips. I've seen him accept them...which I think is tacky (jmo)...but I still don't tip.

I tipped A LOT the last time I went to this guy (which was also the first) and he took the tip. I had a cut, color/highlights and straightening treatment and I tipped 20% on all that because he did it personally and he and his staff stayed late to finish up. I have an appt this weekend and I feel like I've set the precedent of tipping. Plus he accepted. Hmmmm...

I don't because she told me not to (she's also my SIL's niece) and I tried the first three or four times I went to her before I stopped offering a tip.

I still feel weird every time I leave and don't tip her Chat Icon I see other people giving her tips even though she is the owner.

I see the owner and I tip her.

The last time I put it in one of those envelope things for her though.... I wonder now if she doesn't accept tips... Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff - Hair Salon Tipping

I started to go to a new hair salon and was told by the person who recommend the place that the woman I saw was the owner. I have been there twice and both times tipped.
