Spinoff - People Touching the Belly - VENT
So, no sooner do I read & respond to that post I have to leave my office to go to court. I know I'm going to be sitting around so I bring Baby Bargains with me. I run into an attorney I haven't seen in a while who notices immediately and says I look wonderful and congrats. Not a problem, but then . . . .
here comes the attorney that I have the case with who I saw no less than 10 days ago. She sees me reading the book and says "oh, having a baby?" Well, umm, duh!!! I'm 20 weeks 3 days and personally I don't think you can miss it (I've also been wearing maternity pants for almost 10 full weeks already).
She immediately reaches to touch me stomach!!!  Excuse me????????????? I barely know the woman. In fact two days after the very first court appearance with her she walked right by me in a restaurant and didn't even know who I was. What makes her think it's ok????????? ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I immediately took a step back and put the book over my stomach and shot her a look mean enough to kill!!!!
Sometimes I really hate people!

Yeah, I don't get this either. I never did this to a pregnant woman, wouldn't even think of it. I certainly won't now, cause I don't like it either. It's as if your belly is not your own anymore and people regard it as public property!
This happened to me twice at work so far--both were people I barely know and neither asked before doing it. I was so stunned both times, I didn't know what to say or do. Another female coworker told me I'm getting a butt also--thank you very much! I know it's true, but you don't need to point that out.
I wouldn't mind belly touching by people I know well, but none of them are doing it.
Oh well.

Ive only had a few "unknowns" touch my belly...I mind to a point but overall it doesnt bother me much...BUT as I get further and further along I find myself getting more and more annoyed with the invasion of personal space!!!!!!!!

I really don't mind people, correction-most people, touching my belly. I haven't had any strangers try & I know I wouldn't be happy about it.
This lady at work did come up to me when I was sitting at my desk & bent down & kissed my stomach! Now that was kind of weird.

I'm the same, but then again I haven't had strangers touch my stomach. I like when people I know touch my belly.

I just want people to ask! The mere fact that I'm PG shouldn't give people a free pass on common sense. Think about it . . . if I had just gained weight people would NOT be running up to me to touch the belly.

yeah but they arent touching your belly bc u gained weight...they are touching it bc of the baby. i can understand why it bothers u...i wasnt trying to say that u didnt have a pt...its just that i dont mind so much personally!

I totally agree! I feel like people feel entitled to touch it just bc there is a baby in there. Um, it's still my body!

I don't understand why people do this. I am not showing yet so I don't have this problem but both of my sisters had total strangers walk up to them and rub their belly. I would never do that to someone. I would to my sisters but that is about it. Totally weird.

I didn't in any way think that you weren't saying I had a point.
I just don't understand why people who would never in a million years walk up to you and put their hands on your stomach if you had gained weight all of a sudden have NO common sense and think it OK just b/c a woman is pregnant. Why is it that the same rules of personal space don't apply to pregnant women???????????????????????????????????????
