They just had a segement on the Today show about holiday tipping (today)... Who and how much... I believe it said the cost of one session

OF course, depending upon what you get... if it's full cut and color that can be $$$$.

The stylist I had for 12 years, I used to give cash.

No because I usually don't see her at Christmas time.

I was just having this conversation with my mom. Here's my opinion. My hair colorist and cutter and washer get nice tips from me every time I go (I am a big tipper because I spent many years working for tips). I go to the salon, pay for a service, and then tip those who perform. Now why should I also have to give a Christmas gift? I pay them for their services. So why? I just don't get it.

Depends on how often I have the service done.

I'm a regular at the nail salon with weekly or bi-weekly appointments, so I give my regular manicurist cash (usually the cost of a fill-in.) I also tip the girl who does my pedicure a bit more as well.

The aesthetician that waxes me, she'll get a cash gift (a larger tip) comparable to the cost of the service.

I'm undecided about my stylist/colorist. I'm don't have those services done frequently and I don't even know if I'll see her anytime soon. If I should make an appointment and see her during Dec. or Jan., I'll probably give a larger tip, but I doubt I'll give her a tip comparable to the cost of the service(s).

I get my hair cut every other month. No color, nothing else, just a cut and blow. I tip nicely each visit, so when I go next week, I'll just throw in a little extra cash into my tip.

I just add a little more to the tip of my hair cutter, I finally found a place that I like. So I am going to give her 25.00, even though the hair cut is 40.00. I am not a Rockefeller! My nail girl I have been going to for years and I usually give her the same amount I pay for my nails. I also give the salon a nice platter of cookies. HTH
