Spinoff- Food Poisoning
On the least fav place to eat thread loads of people listed getting "food poisoning." Calling it food poisoning is a common misnomer. Instead of saying food poisoning it is more accurate to say food infection. I was told this by an ER doctor and have confirmed it online and with other doctors. Anyway, I am just interested to see how many people were diagnosed by a doctor with this? I think it's common to just call it that if we vomit or get diarrhea after eating at a place.

Re: Spinoff- Food Poisoning
I have NEVER been diagnosed by a doctor with food poisoning.. but (I am weirdly proud to say) I have also never told anyone in any seriousness that I had food poisoning. I have told people that I got sick after eating here there or wherever.
This reminds me of "electrocuted"- my husband is an electrician and gets annoyed whenever someone says they were electrocuted. He will say "No - if you had been electrocuted than by definition you would be DEAD." It bugs the mess out of him. So I say it all the time.

Re: Spinoff- Food Poisoning
I really did get food poisoning last time I let DH cook. I woke up the next morning and could not see straight, but I went to work anyway. Half hour after I got to work in Brooklyn, I passed out. They called DH who was in Glen Cove and DH just said " send her to North Shore". About 45 mins later I came too with the IV's in my arms and they did not know what was wrong with me. They diagnosed everything from an eptopic pg to g-d knows what else. I mumbled "he undercooked the chicken"...half hour later they figured out I had food posioning.
To this day, I won't even let DH make me a sandwich.

So what would you say - that you got shocked?
And no, I've never said I had food poisoning either. I've gotten sick from bad oysters, but that was my only bad food experience. My mother and sister went to Applebee's in Farmingdale one night and got E.Coli food poisoning - they were sick for a while with that.

That was his plan!
I have gotten sick to my stomach and vomitted after eating out, but never needed to go to the ER for an IV or anything. I don't say I had food poisoning though, I'll just say the food there made me feel sick.

Re: Spinoff- Food Poisoning
I've had food that's made me sick, but I've never had food poisoning.
My sister had food poisoning, and I saw how sick she was (diagnosed by a doctor), so I'd never claim to have food poisoning if I just had an upset stomach.
My BIL was also hospitalized for salmonella (sp?) poisoning. Which totally explains why everything he bbq's is well done.
