Spinoff from beach: Anyone else not like the Caribbean?
I've been to about 7-8 Caribbean islands and with the exception of Aruba and St. John, I didn't like them & I don't care if I never go back! Maybe b/c I am not a beach person? I'm literally the only person I know who never wants to go back to the Caribbean!

I've gone to a couple and my feeling is that once you've been to one...you've been to them all. I am so over the tropical/beach/resort-type vacations.

I wouldn't say that I don't like the Caribbean, but when DH and I were planning our honeymoon, I definitely did NOT want to go to the Caribbean or someplace similar, and just sit around on the beach and do nothing other than resort-type activities.
If we had more vacation time than we do, then I wouldn't mind going to the Caribbean for one of our vacations.
DH's parents go to the Caribbean about every 3 months for a couple of weeks at a time, and I'm like, why????

I enjoy going to the islands (I am a beach person)-but I have been to so many at this point, I feel like when planning a big trip I would rather spend the money and go somewhere else... However for shorter getaways to relax they are perfect-the caribbean is beautiful- some islands are better than others but it is still a nice vacation! I do enjoy cruising to the islands too!

Really? I LOVE the Caribbean and the beaches. I could sit on a beach for a week with a drink and do nothing else (ok-maybe a little shopping!)
What island have you gone to that you did not like??

I could see you saying you don't like certain islands because you are limited to the hotels.
I felt that way about Jamaica and I heard people say the same about Dominican Rep. Any other islands you feel that way about?

My friend was just telling me about her fiancé who hates the Caribbean because he despises the beach. And it got me wondering about how I'd feel marrying someone who won't do Caribbean vacations—I'd be so bummed. But I guess that could be a genius reason to take a girly trip every year!

Even though I'm not a huge beach person, I still enjoy the beauty of the caribbean. I can't just lie at the beach all day though - I need to be actively doing things most of the time.

I feel like this about Jamaica. I didn't enjoy it at all. I liked Cancun and I loved Hawaii. But Jamaica was terrible for me.

Jamaica is actually my favorite. We're going back for a 3rd time and have had nothing but great experiences! I hated Mexico and got sick from the food/water.

Actually it depends on where you go in Jamaica. It just like being here and seeing bums on the streets and on the trains and people begging on the sidewalks. There is pickpocketers everywhere. Pickpocketers does not stop me from going shopping here in the U.S.
I am from Jamaica and I LOVE it there and all the other caribbean island I have visited.
Whenever I travel to the caribbean there is so much to do other than just lay by the beach. So many activities and so many sightseeing once you are willing to spend some money.

Did not mean to start controversy. I love snorkeling, the waterfalls of Jamaica, the rum factories, etc. but overall, the Caribbean is just not for me. I have been to Aruba, St. John, St. Thomas, Antigua, Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Marteen, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. All are beautiful and have things to offer, I just prefer other vacation spots.
