My aunt bought Josh a lenox train. It is the engine and a car with a 1 on it. I guess I will be getting a new car each year for it.

Re: spinoff- Gifts For Boys ( yearly)
I make my sons a Christmas ornament every year. I figure that when they are old enough to move out - they can take a little piece of home with them. And have a head start on a nicely decorated Christmas tree! I try to base the ornament on whatever they are interested in this year. One year Robbie liked trains and Noah liked trucks. Last year Noah was really into monkeys and Robbie was fascinated by planets...
I have also written them a 'Happy Birthday' letter every year since the day they were born. Just kind of a 'year in review' and a confirmation of how much I love them and value them.
As to collectibles, I buy them a great book each year. Hardcover copies of 'classics' (my version of classic anyway!). I hope they love reading and will appreciate having a nice starter library when they get older.

Every Valentines Day I have been buying them the last season's full set baseball card collection. I guess unti they are old enough to understand and collect thier own cards. Every Easter we buy the new released Disney video or some other disney video. That's about it for special collectible items.

We do a Lionel train car each year.
Love the baseball card idea. DH has had a trading card business since middle school, I don't know why he didn't think of that one.

Same here. My DH used to get one every Christmas up until this Christmas. This Christmas my MIL gave it to my DS.
I want to try and figure something out that my DH and I can give him. You all have some great ideas.

That is really sweet. You sound like a great Mom. I am stealing ALL your ideas when I get PG(going through IVF right now ) BTW My mom gave me a bunch of ornaments when she moved out of town and i cherish them.
