It really depends on the situation....but let's say it's a situation like Holla found herself in this morning, where someone who was part of a group called her out. How would you have reacted? I have to say that if I feel that I am outnumbered at all I will back down and not say anything...no matter how angry I get I still don't want my *** kicked!

I'm stupid.I will confront when necessary. Of course I will judge the situation before acting or reacting, but in a public place I would feel safer.

I was in the bank like a month ago and I was faced with some racist remarks. In the spur of the moment I just rolled my eyes at the lady and her husband. I did not want to stoop to her level at the time but sometimes when I think about I felt like I should have smacked her.

Maybe I am a baby, but in public I ALWAYS walk away from the situation. Any stranger that is going to outright start with me is not in the right frame of mind to begin with.

for as quiet as i am,i say something back.

But if they continue it, especially if they're in a group (white, black, purple, whatever) I then just walk away

It depends.....if it's a bunch of guys I would definately back down.

If it was just a few girls and I was in 7-11 I would probably say something.

If they were kids...I would have no problem mouthing off. But I would never yell racial slurs at them. That is just wrong. I would make it personal.

I talk a good game, but if I'm by myself, I'm pretty much going to quiety walk with my head down, get into my car and then call my sister and become numb with anger.

it depends of it my Husband is standing next to me or not

in Holla's situation - I would have just rolled my eyes and said something under my breath- gotten into my car- and locked the doors before they automatically locked- since I was out numbered

Quite honestly, I am confrontational unfortunately, when it comes to instances like this. I did not feel outnumbered, because I knew she was just talking sh*t, but if she would have touched me, I would have kicked her a$$.

Re: Spinoff: If someone you don't know says something very offensive to you, how do you react?

I posted this in Holla's post but here it is again:

I went to a all girls school in Jamaica Estates which is a really wealthy area if you stay on the right side of Hillside Avenue. Down the road in Jamaica there is a public junior high. Yes, I got beat up by a younger girl!

We took the public bus home from school and the bus stop is on the other side of Hillside Ave in Jamaica. I remember this like it happened yesterday. It was a Friday and I stayed late at school for a newspaper meeting. Then a friend and I left school and were waiting at the bus stop (like 4:30pm). A bunch of african american kids walk by (boys) and one of them start taunting us telling me I liked one of the guys in their group. My friend and I did not say a word. We just stood there and they passed. Then 5 minutes later a big black girl comes back and asks me why I made a certain arm movement. I had no idea what the heck she was talking about and I said that I didn't do it. She asked me about 5 more times and I still kept saying that I didnt do anything (which I didn't). Then she got the boy, brought him back to me and asked him if I was the one who made the arm movement. He said I was. So she asked me again, and I was fed up and replied, "no, but what the f**k if I did."

With that, I saw her arm raise up and all I did was cover my face while she beat the crap out of me! We were standing outside of a Century 21 and someone finally came out and dragged me into their office. I was just lucky she didn't have any rings on.

Soooo, from my past experience, I would probably not say anything and get away as fast as I could!

I have no problem saying something back to people, regardless of numbers. Unless, there is alcohol involved or I feel like my life or someone else's is being threatened.

I got slapped on my own front porch in college by some little **** b/c I wasn't going to take attitude from some punk.

Needless to say - with today's "sue happy" society I would not put myself in the position where I could potentially get into an altercation - physical or verbal.

im 4'11" - so while I have a big mouth, i know when to walk away, bc a 12 year old could pummell me.

My dad always told me "dont have your mouth write a check that your a$$ can't cash"....or something like that. he had a lot of weird sayings i never understood as a child. Chat Icon

It depends how much alcohol i have in me. I tend to get braver after i've had a few.

If I were in Holla's situation i wouldnt have said anything back. for me, there is nothing scarier than a bunch of angry teenage punks.
