Spinoff: If you don't buckle up in the backseat (or make your passengers)...
Have you ever known (or seen) someone die from the backseat?

Yes. A few, when I was an AEMT. I remember two in particular because the driver was drunk but was the only one with the seat belt on. The other two were ejected. The driver was the only one who survived.

I know that. My question was asking the people that don't do it, if they have ever dealt with death like that.
Just seems a lot of us that do buckle up in the backseat do it because we have lived the nightmare.

i DO buckle up and I make every passenger buckle...
however -
there was a horrible accident 5 days after HS graduation - the only passenger that died was the one wearing his seatbelt. The others were ejected and lived.
am I saying it's wrong to wear a seatbelt? absolutely not. I'm just saying it's not the protective hug of an angel. even seatbelted passengers are at risk.

So true. The boy that died in the accident that also killed the 2 gilrs, was wearing his seatbelt.
I always wear a seatbelt..and I always tell my passangers to buckle up. Still not sure why it isn't a law that everyone in a car needs to wear one.
I remember an accident on my block when I was younger (abt 15) A girl I went to school was thrown from the back seat through the windshield. No seatbelt. Don't know how she survived, but was messed up pretty bad from it.

Sorry, I misunderstood your thread. I do buckle up in the backseat now, and it's partly because of what I've witnessed.
I just feel safer when it's on too, regardless of what I've seen.
