to answer my own questions.
DH doesnt eat meat, although he refuses to call himself a vegetarian or pescatarian, etc. he only says "i dont eat meat". he eats fish. and i would say once every 6 months he will eat chicken if i say its ok. (its never ok with me, but he gave up meat for me, so if he wants a piece of chicken twice a year i wont fight him on it)
he isnt as "crazy" as me when it comes to leather or animal testing. he is getting better though, when we go shopping for bathroom items he is like "check this label, can we get it?" he knows i wont have it in the house if its tested on animals, he just doesnt know which companies yet.
kids. my kids will be vegetarians. no leather. no fur. no dissection in class. no fishing trips. no circus trips. etc.

Dh doesn't eat dairy or meat, but he eats plenty of fish.
We researched the issue for our daughter before she was born, consulted a zillion pediatricians and pediatric nutritionists. They all agreed - it's perfectly ok to raise a vegetarian, but if you raise them vegan, you're treading on thin ice and have to be SUPER conscious of what you are feeding them.
We don't give our daughter any meat. But, she does eat fish, and dairy...

i plan on doing the same. i knew a little girl when i was younger who was being raised vegan and the poor thing was always weak and pale and had black circles under her eyes. i dont think the parents really knew the proper ways to give her nutrition. it was kinda sad all the kids had fun lunches and she had to have cucumber sandwiches. to each their own though.

It's REALLY dangerous, actually... you have to be SO mindful to supplement and give them a whole slew of vitamins, and I just couldn't see doing that to my daughter. So, for now, she eats plenty of dairy, albeit organic, and fish, and she's certainly thriving. Our pediatrician comments all the time on how we're the model veggie family to show how well it works
Granted, though, we won't be able to control her diet forever. I'm sure at some point she'll want to eat a hamburger or hot dog. Our rule will be that she can eat whatever she wants outside the house, but I won't cook meat for her. She'll have to respect mommy and daddy's ethical choices, and do what she wants on her own. Or heck, if she wants to cook, I'll buy her her own pan and she can do that

i alwys wonder that too. although i dont have a baby yet, but i wonder what will happen when they want to try meat. i will let them, its their body and choices, not mine. i will try to install my beliefs and ethics in my children and hopefully they will in turn also have the same beliefs, but if not, theres nothing we can do about it. ALTHOUGH i am thinking that meat is such a different texture they may not like it anyway regaurdless of their feelings toward it.

Re: spinoff, im sure its been asked. another Q for Veggies
I know a LOT of vegan children, a LOT, and they are plump, vibrant, and extremely, extremely healthy. I know a lot of kids who eat meat, dairy, etc and look weak, pale, and awful. Its all about what you eat. You can eat unhealthy no matter what...
DH is vegan. His 2 daughters are ominivores. Cailen will be rasied vegetarian - no meat, fish, chicken, etc - but I feel as a child, he should have pizza and ice cream, like at birthday parties.... I wouldnt want to take that away from him... But I pretty much plan on feeding him vegan at home for the most part....

DH is a big ol carnivore. the only meat i eat is chicken and turkey (i stopped being vegetarian about 7 years ago). i won't touch or cook beef, lamb, pork or fish so DH usually cooks that himself (or i wear plastic gloves)
when i have kids, i will let them try everything and make their own decisions. they will know how i stand on what i eat, but i will allow them to have hamburgers and fish if they want to. i just won't cook it

Re: spinoff, im sure its been asked. another Q for Veggies
FH eats meat. We live together and I don't want meat in the house, though, and he's fine with that. It's not my right to tell him what to eat, but I won't have meat in my house (I don't want to scrub it off my dishes, etc., and most of all I don't want any of my money going towards buying meat - we share the cost of grocery shopping). And even when we go out to dinner together, he orders a non-meat entree most of the time because I won't kiss him afterwards if he has "Meat breath"!
As for kids... I don't know yet (we're about 2 years away from having any). I can't imagine ever cooking meat for my kids, but I also can't imagine them growing up not being able to go to friends' birthday parties and have hamburgers and hot dogs. Besides, FH eats meat, and that would be asserting only my will over them, telling them that the way he eats is wrong.

DH eats meat...and he doesn't love that I'm a vegetarian but only because I'm not the greatest. But I'm getting better.
As for our children;, well, we'll probably raise them with the choice. They will taste it and we'll take it from there.
