Spinoff of living on one income
I have heard many of my sahm friends say "It is hard living on ONE income". I don't know but our combined income is alot less than many one income families. Do you think it is just taken for granted that if two people are working, they are making tons of money?

I don't think that's always the case, you have to take in consideration many factors like what type of job you have, if you have a college degree, etc.
I know in my case, there are other couples out there that make way more than us.

yes, I think people assume a dual income home = more than a single income.
I think it also depends on individual situations... ie: owning a house vs renting, living in NY vs a more affordable area in the country. having a lot of debt vs. not having any

Re: Spinoff of living on one income
i think so... because it depends on the jobs the people have, and whether or not they have kids, etc.... also, every couple has their own lifestyle that they want to have, so a lot of money to one couple is not enough for another couple. we have friends who both work and have no kids... but the wifes job is at a daycare center, which isn't super high-paying. so, on the outisde it sounds like " oh, they both work and have no kids... they must have a ton of money" when, really thats not the case...

Re: Spinoff of living on one income
I hope that's not what people think bc it certainly isn't true in our case!! We both work bc we have to.
If a family/couple is able to afford living on a single income then I consider them very lucky and fortunate to be able to do so.

I think people just "assume" that because there are 2 incomes that they are 2 HIGH incomes and it is alot more than their dh makes with one.

So do I but my friend will complain she only has one income, can't save, but still is able to fix up her house and go on vacation. We are a double income family and haven't been able to afford these things even though we have 2 paychecks.
