Spinoff of my own post: Birthday parties
My family has a rule of NO family parties after 10 years old. You have your "friend" parties, but no more family ones.
I always thought it was normal til we had to go to birthday parties in DH's family for pre-teens
Does anyone elses family have rules like my nutball one does

Considering my family just left my house for my birthday, I think the answer is obvious

Happy Birthday!!
My family celebrates every birthday. My MIL decided a few years ago that she was no longer doing birthday presents for the kids - only the grandkids. Didn't bother me, she could never remember when my bday was to begin with.

Happy Birthday
My parents still take me out to dinner...but it isn't a big shindig after 10.

Re: Spinoff of my own post: Birthday parties
Thanks for the bday wishes, my actual bday is Tuesday, but the family came over for dinner and cake. We do it for everyone right down to my grandparents. It's not a huge production, just dinner and cake, but still, it's nice to be together.

No, we didn't have any "rules" necessarily, but I guess I stopped having family parties around that age too. I did think it was unusual that my DH's family continues to have parties for our nephews until they're like 17!

Re: Spinoff of my own post: Birthday parties
My husbands family thinks I am a little strange because I didn't have a big family dinner for his birthday...at 25, I just wasn't feeling it was necessary to invite his aunts, uncles, and cousins (30+ on one side!) for dinner and cake...
