spinoff on car seats on planes
If you bring the car seat on the plane, I would assume you have to pay for a seat?

Yes. Some airlines have reduced fares for children, though.

Sometimes the plane isn't full, and you don't have to pay, but it's so much safer to have DC in their own seat, in a car seat. Just think of that story last week about all of the unbelted people in the plane who had to go to the hospital. I always paid for a seat for DC, even when they were under 2 years.

You will always have to pay for a plane ticket for any child, sometimes the fare isn't the same as the adults fare, if you want a seat, you will have to pay for it.

Re: spinoff on car seats on planes
I've never had to pay for a seat yet. Other than 1 time, there was always an empty seat that I was able to use for DD. The 1 time that there wasn't she had to sit on my lap. I did however wish that I had paid for the seat because I really didn't feel safe with her in my lap and neither of us were comfortable.
