Spinoff on prayer q. on NFR board...
So my MIL and I had a heated discussion in the beginning of the summer -- she insulted me, but I don't think she even realized it. Anyway, I kind of stayed away for a little while, but when we went over a few weeks ago because DH was putting up new siding, she acted like nothing happened (as did I) - and she even had a gift for me.
It is a plaque - of St. Gerard. He is supposedly the Patron Saint of Fertility/Family. It has a prayer on it.
I say this prayer almost every night - even though I never heard of St. Gerard before - anyone ever heard of him?
Maybe I will get St. Gerard medals for the GTG!!

Never heard of him!!
But there is a store in my town that has an entire WALL of patron saints!! I was amazed at how many there are!!
It's right next to my favorite Ice Cream Shop, so I may have to sacrifice myself and go get a cone and visit the saints!! Low fat chocolate of course!!

St. Gerard is the patron saint for motherhood. If you're interested St. Anne St. Philomena St. Sarah and St. Rose have all been listed on various websites as the saints for infertility, childless couples, etc
and of also St. Jude for hopeless causes

Re: Spinoff on prayer q. on NFR board...
I have heard of praying to St. Gerard for fertility, but honestly had forgotten about it until this post
The one that was always instilled in me was praying to St. Anne and wearing a St. Anne pendant after you ARE pregnant .. you are supposed to wear it throughout your pregnancy, as it is good luck and protects the mother and child.. (I believe it is particularly popular amongst Italians to wear St. Anne pendants, to my knowledge anyhow.. though I could be wrong)
But I haven't gotten a pendant yet though I have a feeling once I FINALLY tell my Mom she will have it all ready for me

I believe it is St Catherine of Sienna, patron saint that protects you from Miscarriage throughout your pregnancy. My mother bought me one after my m/c, I pray with her every night. Just wish I had one before :)

Re: Spinoff on prayer q. on NFR board...
OMG this is such a coincidence! Yesterday we took my family to the celtic festival at hunter mountain. My mom came over and handed me something and when I opened it, I started crying right away. It was a St. Gerard pin. She said that after my grandmothers miscariage, she credited getting pregnant with my uncle on her beliefs and prayers to St. Gerard. So my mom bought me one and I vowed to wear it all the time (along with my turtle pin). I am hoping it works!

I looked online for a list of patron saints and this is what I found:
http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/patron00.htm
There are several different saints for infertility, miscarriage, pregnancy, etc.
I guess you just pick your favorite saint!!
PS - thought it was interesting that DOMINIC of Silos is not only the patron saint of pregnant women, but also of rabid dogs!!
And there is a parton saint for geese!!

Re: Spinoff on prayer q. on NFR board...
St Gerard is the reason I am here My mom prayed to him every night because she was having problems. Also, I gave the metal to my friend who was having a hard time getting pregnant- she is now due anyday now and then she gave it to another friend of ours - she's due with twins in november! I tend to think that it works.
