spinoff... secondary fertility?
Anyone ever heard of of secondary fertility?? As in having to deal with infertility for the first pregnancy, but not the second time or thereafter?

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
Yep, my cousin and his wife. Nedded IVF first time around, had twins. Within 8 months she was pg again on her own (not even trying). There are some theories that pregnancy can kind of make your body start acting the way it was suppossed to all along.

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
Yes, I've known 2 couples who had trouble conceiving #1, but got pregnant on their own after.
I think sometimes depending on what the fertility issues were to begin with, sometimes pregnancy can jump start your system.
I am currently not using any form of BC following the birth of my daughter. Chances are though given our circumstances, I will not get pregnant naturally, but you never know.

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
I'll add who I know- my mom. It took her a few years with her first (no assistance) and 8 years (yes 8!) with my oldest sister- she finally went on clomid and was able to get prego with her after a few cycles. After that she had my other sister and me right away without even trying (we're 3 years in a row)! Than she had my lil sister 3 years after me as an oops. Pretty crazy- my bro is 10 years older than me.
I'm def not going on BC until I'm done having kids cause ya never know it may happen on its own.

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
Good question - I was wondering this too.
I think for us, we'll never go on any form of birth control again probably... but who knows.
After we have our first... I wonder if we'll be able to get PG on our own. We are "unexplained" so I have no idea what that means for the future. I guess it will depend on if we have any more frozen embryos left. If not, we will probably try on our own for a few months and then do another IVF with PGD.

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
If we ever manage to make it to #1, I would probably NOT use any form of birth control for a while, then decide if we would use ART to try for #2. I'd say by 38 or 39 we'd use something just b/c I'd be too fearful of age realted issues with the eggs and DH is 8 yrs older then me and wouldn't want more kids after 45 or 46. Plus with PCOS they say many women get pg unexpectedly after 40 due to the body "dumping" eggs all of a sudden, before menopause!!

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
Yes. My cousin had primary infertility and needed injections with IUI for her first. Her second and third babies came right after with no problems.

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
I have a friend who has high FSH. She was only successful on her 3rd IVF. A month after her DS was born, she got PG naturally!

Re: spinoff... secondary fertility?
my cousin had IVF for #1 and so they weren't preventing after. They had #2 on their own about 2 years later.
Also, a good friend had inject. and IUI and had twins (was originally quads). 3 months after they were born she and her DH figured they would try on their own and got PG with a baby. The kids will be 12 or 13 months apart...that's 3 rear-facing car seats in her vehicle!

OMG I never heard this before! This might explain why my mom accidentally got prego with my lil sis at 42!
