its not that new. My mother had the test with my little brother back in 1984 because he was measuring large. Not sure everybody had the test, maybe only certain people.

I don't think it's that new either.....my mom had it with my sister, not sure about me...and my aunt was telling me how she had it with my cousins because she was telling me how she failed hers and was diagnosed with GD with her last pregnancy (my 20 year old cousin).

I dont' think it's that 'new' which is why I think NOW everyone has it routinely -

When sonos frist came out, you didn't have one at all unless they thought something was wrong - KWIM?

Re: Spinoff: Since the Glucose Test is fairly new...

GD as a concept began in 1964 when O'Sullivan and Mahan performed a 100g 3- hour oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) on 752 pregnant women and tracked all women with at least two values above two standard deviations beyond the mean to see if hyperglycemic women were predisposed to develop diabetes down the road (O'Sullivan 1964).

Its not give everywhere because not all physicians recognize that the current standard for testing is accurate. Most European nations DO NOT preform this test on ALL PG women. If a woman shows signs or meets certain "criteria" that may increase her chances of having GD they will do a post parandial blood test. Basically you eat a meal consisting of 100 grams ofcarbs and protein and they check your blood sugar 2 hours later.....

I know my MIL had "sugar" (that's what they called it in 1973) ... she was on a diet but that is it --- no blood monitoring, insulin, or sonograms ... just a modified diet and a physical measuring of the belly until she gave birth.
