Spinoff: (sort-of) How much ....
does it normally cost to get CAC?
I have 3 a/cs in my house, which is a lot considering the space, but becuase of the layout the air does not circulate well, even with the fans on.
Anyone know of a normal price?
TIA

Honestly I have no idea LOL. I think if you do it "off season" the price is considerablely cheaper.
My grandparents had their ranch done last year and I think it was $5-$6 grand. My parents had theirs done a long time ago so it was cheaper.
IMO central air is a GREAT investment. DH and I don't have it in our house (I'm still working on it LOL) and I told him that when it comes time to move the next house better have it - its a must.

I think ours was $4000 out here in CO but our house already came with the vents and stuff for the heating and you just hook AC into it. I know NY a lot of times has baseboard heating so I don't know how much it would be if you had to put the vents in.

Re: Spinoff: (sort-of) How much ....
It really depends on a couple of things. We don't have CAC in our hi-ranch (I'm dying here as I type) and have looked into it. We got estimates between $5000-$7500. We already have the duct work and vents, although they are ground level and not up high, which is optimal for AC. THe CAC compressor unit would most likely have to be installed outside of our home, because our attic space would not be able to support the load. The one guy I tlaked with also mentioned our heating unit, and whether or not we'd have to upgrgade that as well, since the fan pushing the air through the vents is working off the heating unit.
I'm not sure if we'll ever get it installed in this house, we probably would move by then!

It depends on the size/footage of your house. And the equipment is a BIG part of the expense plus the more energy efficient you go the higher the cost (although LIPA does offer rebates every now and then so sometimes its the same cost up front to go to the next higher unit). I have a 2500 sq ft home and total to do two zones (which is double the cost in equipment) was over 10K and this is with my BROTHER doing it and not overcharging me for labor.

My friend just had a mutual friend install it for her using her forced hot air ducts. She said it works great, no problems at all. I believe she paid between 2-3,000
