Spinoff to a post tonight: once your child is asleep for the night

Do you go in & check on them at all during the night? When you're going to bed do you check on them, or at any other time?

I have never checked on DD once she has gone to bed. Once she was out of the bassinet in our room and in her own crib, I don't check on her. I have the monitor on (I have the AngelCare, which is the only reason I didn't check on her as an infant).

And I'm on the neurotic-side of parenting on a lot of other things, so even I surprise myself that I don't check on her. I think it all started b/c she was a colic baby, and I would be reallllly ticked at myself if she was asleep and I woke her up by just going in to check on her. Chat Icon

I do think when she's out of the crib and in a bed, I'll check on her when I go to bed probably, to make sure she's not wandering around. Chat Icon

Oh, and the poll is for average nights, not if DC isn't feeling well, etc. Chat Icon

My mom had a sibling that died of SIDS. That was many years ago before there was much resaearch on it but it still scares the c*ap out of me. I check on her constantly.

Re: Spinoff to a post tonight: once your child is asleep for the night

I used to check on her every night before I went to bed. Now that we're in the house, the floors creak, so I've been afraid to go in. But with the colder weather here and the fact that I'm still not sure how well our heating system works, lately I've been going in there every night to make sure it's not too cold. We do have a video monitor too, so I constantly check on her that way.

I check on him once we know he's fallen asleep and then again before each of us goes to bed. I will check on him sometimes in the middle of the night if I am up for some reason or I hear him on the monitor.

I check on him usually once about an hour after he goes to bed, then before I go to bed to make sure he is warm, etc.

But if the dog wakes me up to go out or DH call me (he works nights) I don't go in, b/c I don't want him waking up early.

I had a cousin that died of SIDS when I was 5, but it never really occurred to me to check DS b/c of it.....interesting!

i always check on him before I go to sleep but I'm not so much checking on him as much as I am just wanting to see his cute little face.

DS usually wakes up once or twice a night and I have to "check" on him. Otherwise there would be no other checking going on.

I'm terrified of waking her up while she's sleeping. And our floor is sooooo creaky!
Once she's in a bed, I'm sure I'll peek in to check on her, but now, I'd have to walk allllll the way across the room to peek into her crib, and I'mnot risking it!

When they were infants, any time I woke up during the night I woud check to make sure they were still breathing. Now that they are older, I check them once before I go to bed.

No because then I would never get any sleep myself Chat Icon I check on her once before I go to bed, that's it. I have to open the door REALLY fast too because it squeaks if I do it slowly and then she wakes up.

Just once before I go to bed. I actually go in each of their rooms and turn off the dimmer lights that we leave on super low when they go to bed (I guess its like a room night light Chat Icon ). I make sure they have their covers on etc., and then that's it.

Re: Spinoff to a post tonight: once your child is asleep for the night

I check on DS several times to make sure all is OK until he falls asleep. I clear his bed of his blankets and plushed animals after he is asleep. Then I check again before I go to bed. I never go to bed until he is asleep.

I do not check after I go to bed unless he wakes up and cries which is rare.

Once, right before I go to bed. I shut off her white noise and check the temperature of the room to make sure she's not too hot/cold.

I check on him before going to bed myself, just to make sure that the room is not too hot/cold (although I do check if he is breathing)

I don't have a monitor. This is why I check.

I don't think anyone should feel like a bad parent. We all know our kids best and respond according to their need.

DS needs a blanket to fall asleep but I have found the blanket on top of his head a few times. This is why I check until he falls to sleep.

Re: Spinoff to a post tonight: once your child is asleep for the night

I don't ever really go in and check on DD once she is asleep. I think there have been maybe 2 or 3 times in the whole 9 months that I have gone in there. But we have a video monitor and I will check that about twice a night, but only b/c DD is a very restless sleeper and wakes up several times a night crying.

i have a sony monitor - no video so i always go in and make sure its not too cold and that she's in a comfy position etc. lay a light blanket on her since she wont keep it on when she's awake and i love that last sight of her sleeping so angelic before i go to bed.

I only check on him once before I go to bed to make sure he is warm and that the blanket is on him.

If I happen to wake up to go to the bathroom I do a quick peek.
