I go in a ton of times, not really to check on her, but just because she looks so cute, i love to see her and give her a kiss.

I don't check on her at all.Chat Icon
I'm terrified of waking her up while she's sleeping. And our floor is sooooo creaky!
Once she's in a bed, I'm sure I'll peek in to check on her, but now, I'd have to walk allllll the way across the room to peek into her crib, and I'mnot risking it!

Mikayla goes down at about 7:30 and I check on her 2 times between then and when I go into bed (at around 11pm)

I've had to check on DS a few times at night because he occasionally plants his face in the mattress. It's happening less frequently, but it still makes me nervous!

I have both the Angelcare and video monitor still on him. He snores like a crazy guy, so typically the monitor lets me know he's sleeping and okay. I have gone in a handful of times in the past few months, only if I didn't hear him breathing on the monitors.

I don't normally check as I know that it would take more than an earthquake to wake my kid up, but sometimes I like to watch him sleep.

I picked other because we used to check on Jacob every night until he was about 12 months. Since then we check on him every once in a while but we still have the monitor so we can hear everything.

I check on the boys 1-3 times a night. I used to check on them more when they were little - but now they are big school aged kids. I don't do it out of fear or anxiety - I do it because it just seems natural for me. I just can't seem to stop popping in and planting a kiss on them or smoothing their hair or tucking them in a bit better when they throw off their blankets. It makes me happy.Chat Icon

I don't wake up SPECIFICALLY to look in on them.. I am generally a poor sleeper. Whenever I get up during the night, my feet drive themselves to their bedroom.Chat Icon

Exactly my feelings too! Chat Icon

I was starting to feel like a bad parent because everyone else said they check on their kids at least once-- thanks for the moral support Chat Icon

I'm with you guys -- and no video monitor. Just audio.

We don't have a video monitor either. DD wears the sleepsack, and doesn't have any toys at all in her crib, so I just never thought there was a major worry.

We have the video monitor but we still usually pop our head in before we turn in for the night (he always ends up in the blind spot with the camera)

Once Ds was about 1 we stopped checking him at night, then at 16 months he had a seizure and now we check him and have a video minitor.

I check on him once we know he's fallen asleep and then again before each of us goes to bed. I will check on him sometimes in the middle of the night if I am up for some reason or I hear him on the monitor.

same here.

My mom had a sibling that died of SIDS. That was many years ago before there was much resaearch on it but it still scares the c*ap out of me. I check on her constantly.

My mom did as well.

We check on DS just once when we go to bed ourselves. We go in put the sound machine on timer to go off, and put a blanket on him.

It's funny you posted this--I never check DS anymore (he's 10 months), unless he's crying. I checked on him throughout the night when he was a newborn, and we did before going to bed until maybe 8 months. He's a light sleeper though, and there are lots of creaky floor boards in the hall near his room and near his crib--trying to avoid them all is impossible, and there were too many times we woke him.

He was colicky too until about 5 months, so maybe there is something to that! Every once in awhile I feel like we should check on him, but I just can't stand waking him.

Oh, I wanted to add, I still do not use blankets for him, which eases my mind a lot. He has a sleep sack or a pair of fleece pjs, a warm onesie, and cotton pjs under the top layer, so I think he's pretty warm.

Re: Spinoff to a post tonight: once your child is asleep for the night

I always check the monitor right after he goes down and then i go in his room and check him in the crib before I go to sleep. Throughout the night (only when I wake up myself) I take peaks on the monitor. If he has fever i go in there more often to feel his head

We keep her door shut and it makes a noise when you open it. If I checked on her she'd wake up.

We do keep the baby monitor on still though and have units in both our living room and bedroom. It picks up EVERY sound, we can hear when she tosses and turns.

I look in on them a few times each but mostly to see the halo over each of their heads. It seems to shine brightest at night LOL

My Ds goes to bed at 6:30 so we check him a bunch of times before we go to sleep. I sleep with a video monitor right next to my bed that I check constantly. At night when we are all sleeping I go in to check on him whenever I wake up. Since I am at the very end of my pregnancy I am have been getting up 2-3 times a night to go to the bathroom for at least 1.5 months so I always check on him at this time.
