Spinoff to anna's would you have called 911...

Yesterday when one of my girls got to school she was all upset, saying that the baby was at home all alone.

The baby will be two next month.

I asked her if grandma was home with the baby, and she said no.

I asked her who was with the baby (all trying to get her to just tell me who, like maybe she was excited over nothing) but she kept saying noone, the baby is home alone.

Finally I asked her why, and she said that Daddy was working and Mommy had to take her to school, so her and mommy were trying to get to school really quick so that mommy could get back home to the baby because the baby was alone! They walk to school, and it's about a 5-10 minute walk. It's in Brooklyn about 6 or 7 blocks up the road.

I didn't know what to do!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

You can report them to CPS if you are that concerned. But I would be careful, b/c sometimes little kids make up stories or might not know the "whole" story.

Seriously, what in the hell is wrong with people? Chat Icon Everyone seems to have the "it won't happen to me" mentality. It takes 2 seconds for that baby to get seriously injured or worse. Chat Icon

I would absolutely report it.

As a teacher, we are mandated reporters so the answer is "yes". Procedure in my building is to contact the school psycologist and they make the call.

Re: Spinoff to anna's would you have called 911...

At first I was thinking that my student could have been making it up or stretching the truth...but today when she got the school she told me the same thing. During snack I sat down and talked a bit with her about it so she told me more about it. She told me that her mom turns on the TV so that the neighbors wouldn't think that her brother was home alone!

I tried to go in and talk to the parent coordinator twice today but once she was in a meeting and the other time she was out of the building. I am going to speak with her first about it. The school psychologist is out on disability anyway and we only have a sub-psychologist in once a week to do evaluations----so I couldn't really go to them.

But I will let my parent coordinator know about it tomorrow, and talk it over with the principal, and decide where to go from there.

It's so scary! It only takes a second!

Absolutely make the call. It's not ok. I know it's tough to bring 2 kids out but that is definitely not ok.Chat Icon

I agree that kids can stretch the truth and maybe make things up, but if this is the case, I would def call. Leaving a two year old alone is completely insane.

what is this world coming to
