Spinoff to backpacks - the wheely ones or no?
Since a lot of people are saying that the Land's End ones last 4+ years, should we get the ones with the wheels and handle? I would guess that by 3rd & 4th grade they are bringing home a lot of books and papers that get heavy.

I would. In Kindergarten, he would often drag his backpack, even without wheels. In 1st grade, he would wear it almost all of the time, but there were definitely days where it was pretty heavy. It's a nice option to have. I'm picturing it being heavy quite often in 2nd grade +

Wheelie backpacks are NOT permitted in the district where I teach or in the district where my children go. I have heard they were banned in many other districts as well.

Re: Spinoff to backpacks - the wheely ones or no?
We had it the first year but after that, I found that my kids wanted to regular backpacks.
I don't think the school likes them very much as the frame doesn't always fit in cubbies - and if your child opts to carry it, the frame isn't comfortable.
We're up to 3rd grade & on occasion a heavy book is brought home.

I agree, not sure if my school allows them. They are a tripping hazard.

FYI about wheely backpacks, they wheel them and then put them on their backs and end up with dirt and mud on theiir back all the time.
