I really don't go out looking to buy a name brand bag, but most times the ones that catch my eye and that seem like they are good quality just happen to be name brands.

the quality.
IMO, brand name bags are made with very high quality leather and have superior stitching. so even though the bag costs a lot initially, it's worth it because it will really last.
I buy classic styles, nothing trendy.

I never set out to bag a bag- I see one I like- then I decide to buy
100% of the time it's a "designer bag"- but I only buy 1 or 2 a year-
I have Gucci bags that are 6 or 7 years old and still look great- brand new even
I think they last- and if you buy a timeless bag - like an LV speedy- you could really use it your whole life
so in the long run I would rather invest in a good bag- that will last for years- then bag buy 10 less expensive ones-

Quality mostly. I don't change my bags often, and wear them to death. I like a good quality bag that will take the abuse I put them through and still look good.
I find that more expensive brands last longer. The stitching is stronger, the straps don't break, the seams don't stretch, the lining doesn't tear, and the leather is much softer. I have a hard time finding a non-name brand bag where the leather doesn't feel like plastic.
I don't do it to be fashionable or to have the most popular or to keep up with the Joneses.

Coach I buy b/c the leather method is the best available. It makes for a better colour & a longer-lasting leather.
Other bags/shoes it is quality of work & detail that will make me buy a designer.
I do have to say though I choose style over name brand most times. It is my classic/staple pieces that I will spend the extra money on.
