I am part of the alumni association- I pay a fee and support them thru non-monetary ways also
helping former students etc.

I am still paying off my loans. I don't have any extra for donations. Otherwise, I would be paying my loans off.

I don't think I've ever gotten a letter or phone call asking for money.
My mom, on the other hand, graudated from St Johns in 1970 something and they still call every day for donatins.

But I am still paying student loans
I wish the Bursar office and Alumni office would talk - this way they would see I still OWE and hopefully stop mailing me donation letters

When I am done paying the ridiculous loans I had to take to pay the ridiculously overpriced tuition, then and only then will I give a thought to contributing, but I doubt it!

The only money I would ever donate back to my college or high school would be if it was going directly to a student scholarship to help someone...
This is exactly my answer. When I was in college, I had my education funded by someone, and anonymous patron of the arts. I have one tiny loan, but when I am able to, I would love to do this for someone else in their music dept.

I guess I am in the minority, but I try to give $500 per year. Some years its been around $200. I love supporting the university I went to so they can continue to provide students with tools for the future. I also donate to my high school.

nope...thank you! My sister and I went to the same college, she got a list of graduates, the book spanned the life of the college. I wasn't even listed in it.
I find it hysterical that they can't list me there but they can call me once a month

I went to a SUNY school, and they are always hitting you up for $$$ saying it goes to scholarships, etc etc. When and if I ever finish paying back from student loans, I may give them some $$, but that won't be happening any time soon.

I went to a school and then transfered in my junior year and I get stuff ALL the time from the Alumni Department asking for money, which makes me laugh b/c I didn't graduate from there!
I also get the forms to fill out to be listed in the alumni newsletters, my two best friends are from this college and they tell me to just do it to see what happens

I donate once a year. I worked in Development as a student worker and know how important those donations are. It's not the amount you give but the percent of alums that do that counts!

Listen, I had to pay to get the degree then actually pay $50 in order to get the cap and gown to go to the graduation ceremoney...so I think my debt to them is enough!!!

um, no. i will be paying for my education for a long time, and I had big problems with Hofstra Financial Aid - while I believe I got a good education, the lack of respect or help I received from them when I was in a financial situation (my father passed away when I was a senior in high school - we had already filled out the paperwork and they didnt want to reevaluate me after the fact)
they aint getting a dime from me!

I donate to the Adelphi Honors College scholarship fund each year, because I received one of those scholarships and the school no longer subsizes them, so they are now all based on alumni donations.
