Spinoff to cooking.... who cooks their meals for the week ahead of time?
I saw that a few people said they make meals for the week and then freeze them... this sounds like a great idea! What are some of the things that you all make?

I try to each week.
I make a lot of different things, sauce and meatballs, lasagna, stuffed shells
meat loaf, chicken casseroles, chicken marsala, beef stew, pork chops
and i always try to make chicken cutlets and freeze them. they can be used for so many quick dinners.

Re: Spinoff to cooking.... who cooks their meals for the week ahead of time?
I usually make a pot of soup, and grill some chicken. Sometimes I make a casserole or chili or another main dish. I always have all meals planned out in advance for shopping on the weekend.
We both work in Manhattan so it's hard to eat healthy (I'm losing wright on WW) and eat before 8pm if we don't do some pre-prep.
I used to be bad about defrosting too, so when I cook tonight I put the meat for tomorrow's meal into the fridge.

Never have, besides my big vat of sauce and fresh chicken soup, but its not a bad idea to make full meals.

I also freeze my chicken cutlets...DH will take them out once in a while, or I just have them available to make chick parm.
However, that's about the only thing that I freeze.

DH does this. We also have the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer, and we separate chicken legs, thighs, whatever into meals for two people. We buy in bulk, but freeze for dinner for two.
He freezes homemade sauce & meatballs, soup, chili, stuffed peppers. He likes to cook and gets home before me, so he does all the cooking. Not to mention that he knows his way around a kithen way better than I do!

Re: Spinoff to cooking.... who cooks their meals for the week ahead of time?
I'm too lazy to do that!
I always forget to defrost.
However, DH does the grocery shopping and always buys chicken legs, breasts, thighs in bulk (it's only the two of us!) and I always forget to divide it out into ziploc bags when he comes home. So when I make chicken it's like for an army, and I'll try to make different chicken dishes during the week. That's about as far ahead I get in cooking for the week.
And I don't make chicken often...

How do you reheat the chicken marsala? I would like to try this.

Re: Spinoff to cooking.... who cooks their meals for the week ahead of time?
Its been harder and harder to eat healthy for us since my grandpa got sick... we have been eating at like 8-9pm everynight... that's why I feel like if I have stuff prepared and we just throw it in the oven it would be easier... but how long do most of these things take to defrost? Can you just put them frozen in the oven? I'm the worst when it comes to the whole defrosting thing... and how do you all defrost your chicken cutlets(breaded)?

In the morning i take it out of the freezer and put it in the fridge to defrost. Then when we get home I throw it in the oven or microwave

Re: Spinoff to cooking.... who cooks their meals for the week ahead of time?
chicken soup, chili, sauce and meatballs, eggplant parm, lasagne, swedish meatballs, meatloaf.
Other quick dinners are turkey burgers or regular burgers on the grill, no bun and I grill some veggies and serve with tomato onion, pickles.
Tonight DH is picking up some tuna steaks and we'll grill them medium rare marinated in soy and garlic with rice and asparagus.

I do the same thing, and instead of a bun, I grill a couple of portabella mushroom caps drizzeled with olive oil, garlic and a sprinkle of parm. cheese, and use that as a bun under the burger. I do this mostly with turkey burgers.

I don't even cook during the week. I can't imagine cooking for hours straight on one day preparing for the whole week.
I give those of you who do this a ton of credit.
My DH says the best thing I make is reservations!

Occasionally I will. It definitely saves a lot of time. Usually I'll cook things that reheat well like lasagna.

Re: Spinoff to cooking.... who cooks their meals for the week ahead of time?
Yes, I just started to.
Lovin the crock pot right now. I make chicken stew or beef stew in the crock pot and on the stove sausage and peppers, or chicken cacciatore along pasta and rice divide everything up and freeze it so that we can each eat whatever we feel like it every day.
I TRY to do this every Saturday or Sunday morning.....try....
