Spinoff to decorating for Fall
Part of my fall decor for the outside of our home are bales of hay. I usually use two bales with a scarecrow, a basket of pumpkins and gords and then I scatter some pots of mums.
It looks so pretty, but unfortunately when I put out my display last year, I wound up killing the sod on our front lawn.
Is there something I can do to avoid this from happening again this fall? I would be so disappointed if I couldn't put up the usual display I have done in the past.
Just so you know, I don't have a front pourch to put anything on. Just a small front step and then a walkway made of pavers to the driveway and street.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

How about doing it in the garden instead?

Re: Spinoff to decorating for Fall
you answered that already, sorry.
I thought maybe a porch or stoop as an option.

I don't have a garden. We have very shallow flower beds in front of our home which have small shrubs in them already.

Re: Spinoff to decorating for Fall
maybe put the bale in some type of wagon so it is off the grass?
I've seen cute garden ones at Christmas tree shop or I've even used an old metal roughed up red flyer wagon to put mums in. A bale would fit in there.
So are you saying that the sod did not come back in the spring?

That is an EXCELLENT idea!!! Thank you!
Yes, the sod did not come back in the spring. I had a totally dead patch on my front lawn.
My brother said it was probably caused by the hay having a pesticide on it. I never thought of that but I guess it does make some sense. I guess they spray them down so you don't attract bugs.
