spinoff to diane's post-all day

hi btdt ladies!!

as i read through the responses on diane's post about what you do all day with your twins, it made me wonder. most of you had a very early bedtime. when did that start?? how old were your babies? we are really struggling with nighttimes still and i have tried to begin to establish a little routine at night, but it doesn't seem to work.

generally they wake up between feedings and dh and i work so hard to get them back to sleep, by using the dr. karp 5 S's, but by the time we do all that and they are still not asleep, it's time for the next feeding. so it's impossible to sleep in between feedings. it feels like "why bother?" they will sleep much longer after a feeding if i let them stay next to me, right next to the breasts, but that's not too safe.

please give me some advice. i know everyone says they will eventually sleep longer between feedings and through the night, but when? and how do you begin to establish that?

tia!!! i am exhausted.

Re: spinoff to diane's post-all day

Their sleeping through the night didn't really start until 3 months for me, and that was 10pm-5am. When they started cereal at 4 months then it was 8-5 or 8-6. When we are home they go to bed around 6:30-7, they are so ready for bed, but if we are out I can push it until 8-8:30.

I pumped, because they were in the NICU they came home on a schedule and I stuck to it. They ate every 4 hours, so I was able to sleep, clean, etc. Are you supplementing with formula. I gave them formula at night, it filled them up more, so I got additional hours of sleep.

hang in there, they are still adjusting. You are almost out of the woods.

Christopher started sleeping through the night at 4 months, but Matthew didnt till about 7 months.
Every now and then he wakes up in the middle of the night, but it was because of teething pain (I think it was)
Last night he was up at 2 amChat Icon
Once they are more active and eating solids they will sleep longer.
But you cant go by Matthew because he is bad sleeper at night but a GREAT napper.
They will get there...hang in thereChat Icon
It gets better

My situation/experience is very similar to Tracey's b/c my boys were in the NICU also and had a very stringent schedule that they adhered to. As burberrygirl said, sleeping through the night didn't start until exactly 12 weeks. Before that, there last feeding was around 10:30-11:00 up at 3 for another feeding and then up at 7. Once they started through the night, it was bedtime at 10:30 up at 6:00. As the months passed, their bedtime did become earlier b/c they were so much more active during the day.

My boys started sleeping 10-5 starting around 3 - 3 1/2 months...prior to that it was every three hours. Then around 4 months, I just decided that they were so sleepy staying up till 10PM and tried putting them down at 7. They woke up and fussed a bit around 10ish but from that day on they have slept from 7PM - 7AM.

The beginning is soooo hard. But i promise you it does get better. I had a lot of help or i never think i would have gotten through that time.

Re: spinoff to diane's post-all day

mine differs...they are 3 1/2 months now and for the most part --they go to bed between 8.8.30
they will get up once--(never know when though and then at about 5.00 5,30
last night however we got to bed late and it was a free for all--up for a long time and then kep waking at night.
They have***to be in bed by 8.00.
