spinoff to dog in grocery store...really funny......
years ago my aunt had this dog Max that was really attached to her, he had terrible seperation anxiety, and he was a little nutty. He was around 40 pounds a wheaten terrier/poolie (sp?) mix. Sweet dog, but neurotic.
She had taken him to the vet for something, shots or something, and on the way home stopped quick at the grocery store to pick up a few things (not a big grocery order, just milk and bread, something like that)...she rolled the windows down a few inches, and then locked him in the car, and went inside the store. Well, like 5 minutes later she hears a commotion in the aisle next to her, and then over the loud speaker, "would the customer who owns the dog please escort him out"...she walks to the end of the aisle just in time to see Max frantically rounding the corner looking for her. He had shimmied out of the car window, and ran inside the grocery store and was running up and down the aisles looking for her, poor thing. She picked him up and put him in her cart, and then went to the customer service window to apologize to the manager and explain what happened. They weren't angry, they actually let her pay for her groceries at the customer service desk and then she left with him. The next day she went out and bought a crate for the car.

She thought maybe he broke the window until she saw the car, and nope , he just shoved himself threw it. She still gets upset when we talk about it, that he could have gotten stuck in the window, he could have gotten hit by a car on his way across the parking lot, he could have gotten stuck in the doors, etc....
that poor puppy was always doing something crazy. She had him gated off in the kitchen while she was vacuuming the carpet one day (because the vacuum used to scare him), so she's vacuuming away, the she finishes and goes to let him out, he had tried to throw himself over the gate to get to her, and his collar got stuck, so he practically suffocated himself on the gate, after that she stopped putting a collar on him while he was inside. Oh, poor Max, he used to make us laugh soo hard.

Re: spinoff to dog in grocery store...really funny......
although i realize this is a cute story and told for entertainment value, i have to say (sorry to be a bummer) that it infuriates me when people leave pets in the car for "just a few minutes"
even in cooler temps, the temp in a car can increase dramatically and cause serious harm or death to a beloved pet. it's hard for a pet to breathe and their body temp can rise dramatically.
i do appreciate your story, but had to put that disclaimer out!
